Scratchy Clothes

pfallerj by pfallerj Proud Parent(August 2006) (rank 12th)

Today's First Time Parenting Tip - If it would be uncomfortable for you to wear, its probably uncomfortable for your baby to wear.

We put our son into a little "Finding Nemo" onesie the other day. Pretty cool, it's got a nice green color and the orange fish

stiched right onto the chest. Took it off him and noticed that he had a little read agitated area of skin on his chest. Hmm. Whatever could it be?

Now if you handed me a shirt with a big Nemo on the front, but the inside of the shirt had that starchy, scratchy material that gets sewn on the back to hold it on, I probably wouldn't wear it too much. Likewise with clothes that are made of scratchy material on hot days, etc.

Just something to pay attention to. I know kids get away with wearing things that adults could never wear cause they're so darn cute, but there's no reason for them to be uncomfortable. If you wouldn't wear it because of comfort reasons, they shouldn't either.

chele

We have millions of singlets! They are the best for bub layers to keep bub warm or cool down, if bub is dribbling it will not usually reach his chest as there is a singie there it also prevents scratchy material or tags, and if there is an unpromptu swim invite this can be used for little girls perfect for all occasions and the grandparents were right to buy so many as we use them!

Try Singlets
It's recomended that you pop a singlet (under shirt) on babies, it helps regulate their temperature and it would prevent skin irritations as well from exactly what your cute shirt did.  Always wash garments before wearing them as he may have an allergy to dressing (sort of a starch).

Try Singlets
Singlets would have to be my favourite clothing article for kids! not only does it stop them getting cold, or scratched or drooled on, it also prevents them catching colds! and not just when they are little. as a kid i wore a singlt everyday and one day i 'forgot' (ie- i got halfwya to school and took it off!) and i had never hada cold before. two days later i had the worst cold of my entire life.. you bet i wear a singlet now! and my son is never without one!

Comfy clothes
I think its important to think that way - Would I wear it?
My kids are more spoilt than I  - they jhave the best clothing and I like to buy organic clothing which is softer and kinder to the skin. Sometimes its easy to get sucked in by a licenced product with a cute Nemo! (what a good movie!)

this is good
It is so true, i hate seeing my little brother or sister take their lcothes off (usually in pulic) because tis irritating the junk out of them! I dont blame them though!  you could always find an iron on backing or a peice of cotton or something to put over the irritating patch or whatever to help though. a lot of the time this does solve the problem :)

Do you wash your kid's clothes first?
It might help to prewash all of baby's things.  And to snip out uncomfortable bits.
