Governments $900 Payout

Anonymous Author (February 2009)

Re: government payment question
anonymous

Question:

I'm confused.

I'm a stay at home mum receiving tax benefit A and B and my husband earns under $100,000. Our kids don't go to school yet.

Some people are saying both me AND my

husband are eligible for the payment, as in, we get $1800.

Then some people are saying we only get $900 as we have no school aged kids and I'm not working.

Please help!

My Advice:

News is all good now - but the price is an additional $900 million- that was the price for Nick Xenophon to vote for the bill he rejected yesterday.  I guess not many of us know what our price is but Nick Xenophon does - its $900 million to help the drought-stricken Murray Darling catchment - not a difficult guess as to what area of the country our Nick represents!

So along the way we lost $50 to the Greens so the payout is now $900 - but lets face it that’s $900 more than most people get from their governments! And really its not he government’s money because for certainly the taxpayers who are getting the payout to taxpayers.

So just to recap to - be eligble for the $950 $900 payout to taxpayers:

  • you need to have earned less than $100k in the 07/08 Australian tax year;
  • you need to have earned more than around $11k otherwise you won’t have paid any tax that tax year,
  • you need to have filed your tax return for that year - DUH - you are LATE - but you have until 30 June to file your tax return for 07/08 to get the payment.

In addition - yes you can get more then one $900 payout

  • if you are a full time student eligible for Austudy or Youth Allowance
  • if you receive family assistance parts A or B for eligible children under the age of 18
  • and for all i know i thing there is a payout for children between the age of 4 to 18 who go to school.

Also make sure that centrelink (for the family benefit, student and other benefits linked payments ) and ATO (for payouts based on your 07/08 tax return) have your up to date addreses and bank a/c details - hate to delay getting the cash because the bank account number was wront for your $900 payout.

My situation is that i did file tax returns last year and so did hubby. Both our combined income is less then $100000 and we have a 6 month old.

Thus i get $900, hubby gets $900 and bub gets $900. For all i know.

Cheers

Re: Governments $900 Payout

yes U get both your hubby gets $900 and u get $900 so thats $1800 and I like that the government is doing this to stimulate the economy sitting on the money isn't going to help the recession so better to give it back to the people to do whatever they want with it.

Re: Governments $900 Payout

I'm sorry but i wish people would just look up the centrelink website to get the correct information (yes i have said this before, lol!).

As for who really needs it, well every family is in a different situation.  I know that any money we may recieve will be put to good use and will be used wisely, i also know some families won't use it as it is intended for and truthfully thats their problem not mine.  Sorry if this offends anyone but i'm sick of hearing about it!

Re: Governments $900 Payout

You get the $900 on your individual income. If you earn under $80 000 you get $900 if your partner earns over $100 000 he/she gets $250.

If you get ftb A,  you get $950.

If you have children between 4 and 18 yrs you get $ 950 for each child.

If you can't use it I know lots of people who could!!!

Re: Governments $900 Payout

I am not wealthy and I could orobably use the $900, however, I think that the money would be better spent on the enviroment !

Let;s face it,,,,if the money was not coming to us we would all get by,,,like we always do.

I really think it is a shame that they are giving this money away and I really do not think it is going to help the economy a great deal.

Re: Governments $900 Payout

I got this information from a newspaper article so i am be wrong but this is what i have heard. If ppl want to be really sure then why not call centrelink. I only posted this advice in response to someones questions.

BTW someone mentioned that $900 does  not make much of a difference and would be more useful towards some clean energy thing, then let me tell you if your $900 wont make a big difference to you then you can pass it on to me. It doesn make a huge difference to me. I need money and not solar power to keep my family going.

Re: Governments $900 Payout

It works out at less than $2.50 per day over a year... Thinking long term and globally will ensure your family has a good place to live in the future.  The cost of electricity is going to escalate substantially, by creating your own power & selling it back to the grid and ensuring the country has renewable energy actually helps ALL families.

Re: Governments $900 Payout

thats not a stupid question

i wanted the answer to that too as i have been hearing conflicting information

people are saying if you are earning under $100,000 you get it but " you" means you as an individual but then i hear and read combined income .

if its you as an individual i will receive it but if they mean "you" as a total combined couple income i miss out . so thats where im also waiting for clarification can anyone give a government link on this info please?

annie

Re: Governments $900 Payout

I live near the once mighty river. Thanks to Nick our outcome looks alittle better. More water in the SA end means more jobs for those who live here. A friends hubby lost his job because of the lack of water. He worked at a lawn manufacture, who grew instant lawns.

As far as my understanding of the payment goes if you earn:

Under $80,000 you get $900

Between $80 000 and $100 000 you get $600

Over $100 000 you get $250

If you have  children aged between 4 - 18 you get $950

If your recieve family tax benefit A you get $950

Re: Governments $900 Payout

I think it is a shame to waste the money... Really, $900- makes little difference to the life of an individual, let alone a family when you consider how much is spent in a year, 10yrs etc.  However investing $900 million in resources to create and improve the land so that it is self sustainable, to create wind farms, more solar energy, develop greener cleaner fuel sources would be a great LONG TERM investment in the economy that we could all benefit from.  BTW, this probably belongs in the notice board, not the advice section, though it is very informative.
