Re: Bed wetting
Asked by jess-stclair
Question:
I have a five year old girl who almost every night wets her bed and then she climbs into my bed for the rest of the night. This causes two problems I need fixed the bed
wetting and sleeping in my bed. Can anyone help me please I'm sick of washing sheets and blankets and I need my bed back!!!!!
My Advice:
My son was bed wetting until he was 7. I used dry nights for I'm not one for doing the whole bed changing thing in the middle of the night. My partner & I wondered how long it was going to go on for, then we forgot to put the dry nights on one night & he has been dry every since. My son was a very heavy sleeper & would regularly walk & talk in his sleep so I didn't think getting him up to go to the toilet before I went to bed would have helped (plus I feel this can just train the child to wake up in the night to regularly go to the toilet, not teach their bladder to get through the night). I feel children get it when they are ready you just need to be patient.
Things to watch before bed time, apple juice can irritate the bladder & over stimulation before bed these can cause a child to wet their bed. Also to help with the problem there is a sheet designed to go over the top of the bottom sheet that is absorbent so you just remove it & change it for another . It is not a full length sheet so you don't need to remake the whole bed (they're called bedazzled & can be bought on ebay).
To get your bed back you need to put your daughter straight back in her bed, comfort her & let her know your not far & she will quickly learn she needs to stay in her bed for the night. I did this when my two & half year old thought he was going to move back into the family bed when his baby sister came home (four in the bed was a little too much).
Good luck & patients
