playing wit himself

Dawn by Dawn Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 24th)
I am wondering how to explain to my 3 yr old to stop playing with himself? His hands are down there all the time it seems like. Everytime I tell him he just laughs/ smiles and says that's my pee' er . Or is this just normal for boys ?
I hope so .

HE IS ONLY 3, AND HE IS JUST PLAYING WITH HIMSELF, HE'S NOT PLAYING WITH HIMSELF! ITS VERY NATURAL FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS TO CHECK THEMSELVES OUT. MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT AND AT THAT AGE, ITS JUST A GOOD REASON FOR HIM TO DO IT MORE BECAUSE MOM SAYS NO OR DON'T. INGORE HIM WHEN HE DOES IT, KIDS DO ANYTHING TO GET ATTENTION. NOW AS FAR AS DOING THIS IN PUBLIC, ARE YOU KIDDING HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A BASEBALL GAME? MEN SCRATCHING HERE THERE AND EVERYWHERE PULLING AT THEMSELVES WHEN THINGS GET TIGHT FOOTBALL ISN'T MUCH BETTER. SO I WOULD NOT WORRY TO MUCH ABOUT PUBLIC DISPLAY, IT IS  MORE EMBARASSING FOR YOU THAN HIM. THE THING ABOUT KIDS IS THAT THEY ARE UNINHIBITATED ABOUT SUCH THINGS THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND SOCIETY AND ITS DOS AND DONTS. THEY ARE FRESH NEW   NORMALHUMAN BEINGS EXPLORING THEIR  BODY PARTS. HE MOST LIKELY DOSEN'T DO IT A MUCH AS YOU THINK  IT JUST SEEMS THAT EVERYTIME YOU LOOK AT HIM HIS HAND IS IN HIS PANTS. HAS HE RECENTLY BEEN TOILET TRAINED? MAYBE THATS WAY HE HAS A HOLD OF IT AND CALLS HIS PENIS HIS PEE'ER. JUST A THOUGHT, BUT REST EASY EVENTUALLY HE WILL LET GO.

One of our boys thought it a great toy
half the time i didnt even bother- the rest of the time id just calmly distract him and say in a quiet friendly voice -  "dont play with your doodle honey- heres a toy to play with" or "ok honey put it away now, come and play with your toys"

our daughter on the other hand would look at him like he was a germ and yell "OOOO YUK- LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!"

playing with themself
All kids do it regardless of gender, and they all (well most) grow out of it. as someone mentioned below- they hav had it in a nappy for their entire life, its a new body part to get to know. remember how cute it was when they found their feet and chewed on them and played with them all the time? same thing. although my brother fed his peepee chocolate cake one day... interesting the things they will do!  nothing to be embarrassed about, once they explore and find it isnt all that great they will give it up. if you make a big deal, then they will think itsgood fun and wont leave it alone!

touching himself continued

My son has been potty trained since december of 2005, like when he was 33 months old.

playing with himself
My 5 yr old has been doing that since the day he realized he has a penis... he tells me it is itchy ( he is not circumsized) but otherwise he is always touching, or holding it.. I have taken him to the dr ( more for the itchy part then the holding part) and have been reassured it is natural, but to be sure he is pulling the skin back and cleaning it properly .. and once a week I clean it with a little rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab( as per drs orders, just to be sure it is good and clean) ... dont worry about it, its all natural

playing with himself is normal

most kids especially at this age are amazed by it as they had it in nappies for so long that they wonder what it is.. my 11 yr old son still gets caught playing with it ... all the specialist tell you that its good for men and women to masterbate themselves and if stop our kids doing it and teach them its wrong to do then we can be affecting them in future... i don't know if that is true or not we just tell him there is a time and place you want to do that do it in your room or the toilet were no one has to see it..... plus make him go wash his hands... though we have said leave it alone it will fall off when we are in the shops and catch him doing it... normally i say it quietly but hubbie likes to try embarass him into stopping by yelling it out.... have to admit haven't noticed him doing it for awhile so might have worked lol

anyway wouldn't stress and if you are out and about and he playing with it just say oh must need the toilet as its also natural to grab there when they need toilet so just let everyone around you think its just that needs toilet......

playing with himself

Of course its normal, but that doesn't mean that we as parents should not teach our children when it is appropriate and where its appropriate, men playing with themselves in baseball or anywhere is not the most wonderful sight, a gentleman will not have a good old feel or scratch in public.  So as innocent and as young as they may be it doesn't mean they cant be taught right from wrong.
