Which MCN we use and why

mcm by mcm Young Parent(April 2009) (rank 3rd)

Our youngest son has been in cloth since he was born. We have never needed to use a disposable nappy. My other children all were in disposables for a time. I have discovered what works for us and find cloth very easy and most desirable to use. I hope that

our experience may help others.

J is 6 months. He has nappy free time at least once a day, usually in the morning. He used to stay on the area that I set up for him, ie, on terry flats or prefold. Now he is gearing up to crawl and can move where he wants to go. We have floorboards so its not a drama to clean up.

For short periods I will put him in a flat nappy with a snappy. Flannelette is least absorbent, terry more absorbent, hemp and bamboo much more absorbent.

In the car, we have AIOs (all in ones) for convenience. I don't like them much because they seem to leak and don't provide as much coverage as a fitted and cover. I much prefer a bamboo towelling fitted with wool cover. Its all I would trust when J is carried on me.

I have pockets which once stuffed are easiest for my MIL to use. J hasn't been away from me but when he's older and  stays with MIL for example (hubby can also handle any mcn now) pockets are easiest.

At night time I put J in a bamboo fitted with thick wool cover (handknitted soaker or longies). Bamboo smells a lot less than a wet hemp nappy.

great advice! alot shorter than mine i think i went overboard!

i love pocket nappies and so does everyone who see mine! they are super easy but i agree that fitteds and covers provide the most coverage, ive never had a prob with AIOs tho!
