HIGH FUNCTIONING AUTISM- ASPERGERS.

cheekymonkeys by cheekymonkeys Talking(April 2009) (rank 157th)

I just recently got a confirmation that my 5 year old has High Functioning Autism (Aspergers). To me they are two different diagnosis but they are one of the same. When i finally got the correct diagnosis after 5 years i was happy but sad at the same time. Autism

as alot of people may know can differ in its rating scales. My son rated 31 on a c.a.r.s scale which was mild autism. After seeing many different specialists and seeing a physchologist he was diagniosed with high functioning autism which they say is Aspergers. I am gratefull for all the support that i now have and all the different ways i can help him to understand himself. It is hard at  times but i would not change a thing about my son. With Aspergers  a child can excell in some things in life but not totally understand why he/she has his/her tantrums, is unable to learn as well as their peers, need special help with their learning and alot of otrher things that happen in life. Aspergers is for life a person has it even into adulthood but will understand more as they get older. They are different in the respect of learning and behaviour but all they need is a bit of time and tender loving care and someone to help them while they are young to be there for them and show them the way at times. Gladly my son has his brothers and sisters to help him along this long journey he will be travelling throughout his life i will also be there to help him np matter what. my son and any other child or adult that has aspergers or autism is each an individual in their own way. I cannot write much more than i have but i will add website addresses to help anyone that may be interested or have a child with autism or aspergers in understanding them.

My son has received funding under " The helping with Autism Package" that the government annonced in july last year. This funding will only last until my son is 6 years of age and allows myself to get him to specialists that i would otherwise be unable to afford on my own.

I love my son unconditionally as we all love our children and i would do anything for my own child[children that i needed. i am even helping family and friends to understand my sons way of thinking and how he sees life through his eyes at times when he is being himself so that no one gets frustrated with him if they do not understand this is only the people whom do not have contact with my son. They do not understand his speech at times  as he produces more saliva than other children his age. He will sometimes wet his pants and tells me it is water i laugh at him which in turn  makes him see the cheeky funny side of himself and what he does each day.

here are some very usefull websites that i use to enable myslef to understand Autism and Aspergers:

http://www.mugsy.org/wendy/

www.autismtraining.com.au

www.autismvictoria.org.au

I will add more usefull links when i remember them all there are just so many .

if anyone overseas wants to know if there are any websites intheir country then i will do my best to finout.

I hope these sites are useful for anyone that may know or have a family member with any a.s.d(Autism spectrum disorder)

Great article, will help Mums & Dads out there to understand more about Aspergers.

I'm sure Caydn will progress in leaps and bounds with the love and support of his family.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers Janice
