Help with wind and teething

cook65 by cook65 In Nappies(April 2009) (rank 500+)

I was talking to a young Mum at work today and she was worried about her 13 month old developing colic and having trouble with her teeth ( the baby that is ).

I told her that the best things I had ever  been advised to use were

"Infants Friend " and SM33 adult strength liquid". Both of my younger children suffered terribly with colic at a very early age and "Acid Hour" would start at aroun 4pm and could sometimes last until 4am!!!  An old child health nurse told me about infants friend and we have never looked back. It is all natural and does not have any alcohol that other remedies  have in them. The girls are now 4 and 5 and I still use it to calm the occasional belly ache. I am now using it on my grandson and it works just as well.

SM33 is another old remedy. My mother used it on all 4 of us kids ( the oldest is  48). I have used it on all 3 of my children and my grandson as well. The main ingrediants are liquorice and lignacane so use it sparingly. As it is a liquid and not a gel, it does not  just slide off and get swallowed. It also numbs the site fairly quickly and stops the little ones pain. I never tell the chemist that is  for a baby, or they try to give me the gel and that isn't what I want. One word of warning however, it stains like any thing so a little bit on your finger rubbed into the sore gums works well. It also smells horible but children seem to like the taste.

I'm not sure if this is of any help to other new Mum's out  there but they are both things that worked for me.

Good luck to all Mum's and Dad's and remember...... live each day with your child as if it was your last because  time slips by so fast and then they too will be adults

Re: Help with wind and teething

I think when you go to the chemist for anything for a small baby you should tell them it's for a baby. Just because something worked for one family doesn't mean it is going to be ok for another family. I wouldn't reccomend using something for a child that is designed for an adult the ingredients would be much harsher.
