Cooking Experience With Kids...

Preeya by Preeya In Nappies(May 8th) (rank 500+)

I'm a Childcare worker and we do alot of cooking experiences with the children back at the centre. The children love it! Then a few weeks ago my friend asked me to host her 4 year olds birthday party so I decided to do a cooking experience with

them 'Baking a birthday cake'.

I have to say, it went better than I had hope for. The kids loved the cake and it only took 7 mins in the microwave!!!!!

I Just let the kids add an ingredient each and take turns mixing then decorate.

'CHOC MUD CAKE IN THE MICROWAVE'

  • 1 pkt Choc cake mix (cheap brand, i used homebrand)
  • 1 pkt Instant pudding mix (chocolate, i used Cottees brand)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small cup oil
  • 1 small cup sprite or lemonade

Mix well and Microwave for 7mins in a sillicone cake pan

For icing, Melt chocolate in microwave then mix in some lightly whipped cream then pour over the cake.

We decorated with the ready made flowers made from icing.

YUMM!!

Re: Cooking Experience With Kids...

Good suggestion! We once had a cookie-making birthday party for 5 year olds, which was also enormous fun for all... and they loved having their own designer cookies -- one to eat at the party, the rest to take home!

(we fed them healthier food at the party... and let their own parents deal with the excess cookies as they saw fit!)

That's a lovely idea... It sounds like a lot of fun.  If you had baked something healthier, I'd score it higher; though that cake does sound yummy and the experience of making it would be so good for the kids ; )
