Making your own Baby Wipes

sezza11 by sezza11 Crawling(May 9th) (rank 500+)

Lets face it we all like to save a buck or two when it comes to those 'need' items. i am not a hippy by any means nor do i place to much belief in most things outside of the little box i live in but things have changed dramatically

in the last year and i am no longer as sinical as i once was, so heres the scoop, making your own baby wipes is one of the great ways you can keep more of that precious dough in your pocket. Here is the recipe for strong reliable and safe baby wipes, that now also appear in our bathroom to freshen up during the day, and who doesn't want that!!

You will need:

3 pack of plain VIVA paper towels, approx $3.99 ( please note they must be viva for the strength, for those on the north american continent bounty is perfect)

1 TBS of baby oil

1 TBS of baby lotion or wash

1 1/2 cups of boiled cooled water

1 canister, preferably something you can store your wipes in that only requires one hand to open, the other hand is usally on the bub!

How to Make:

Cut one roll of paper towel in half and remove the cardboard inner tube, place in your container, the roll will start from the middle to ensure it does not unravel on you.

whisk together the oil lotion and water and pour over the wipes, let it sit for a half an hour or until all the liquid has absorbed into the towel, vola!! out of a three pack of viva kitchen towel you have been able to make 360 wipes for the cost of almost less than a cafe latte!!! now thats got to be good!

i can vouch for these as being perfect for clean up of any little bottom around they work so well, and can be made with organic products if you wish to be a little greener, hope it has helped with your budget this week, give them a try within a month you'll be saying johnsons who??

in my experience using them they stay wet for the entire time you use them, keeping in mind i change a little bottom about 4-5 times a day. if they are in a sealed container you shouldn't have a problem with them drying out.

We were told by our doctor how to do this.  They were great.  Wonderful on babies skin and the wallet.  Great information.  Thanks for sharing!

Wow, i think i will give this a try.

We currently go to our local nappy factory to get wipes but since i started going there 3 years ago the wipes have gone up so much in price that we have been trying to find alternatives.

This by far seems to be the cheapest thing next to using face washers but the problem with face washers is you can't leave home with them.

Thanks again for this fantastic advice.

*Slaps herself in the head*

Of course you can do that. I just never thought of doing it. Still, I'm off to make my own viva homemade baby wipes now.

Might have to give this a go!  We are the perfect test family with 3 kids still requiring the use of nappy wipes! lol.

Currently, we get the Aldi wipes, which are cheaper than the better named ones, but just as good quality.  They are also more environmentally responsible (found that out by mistake! lol- remember to remove dirty nappies and wipes from car before leaving there for a month!).

Such a good idea, I'm almost sorry we're well past that stage now!

I might consider grannyjack's suggestion for using them for other household needs, tho'!

(No, to be honest, I'm REALLY glad we're past wiping up the poohie bottom stage! )

Well written, good idea as well... In fact, you almost succeed in making the whole baby wipe topic sound fun!  (ALMOST - LOL).  It is a great savings and as grannyjack said, they are so useful whether you have a baby or not, I think I will give it a go.

Re: Making your own Baby Wipes

What a great idea! We don't have a baby at home, but we use baby wipes for everything around the house from cleaning spectacles to cleaning up spills. They are fantastic. And if we can make our own, it will save us a fortune.

Thanks,

grannyjack.
