Natural Skin Care For Mothers using Jojoba Oil

MotherofJWE by MotherofJWE Speaking(May 29th) (rank 307th)

Wrinkles are caused by the reduction of your skin's production of sebum which helps retain the moisture and elasticity.  Your skin's production of sebum can be affected from any age but usually starts to decline rapidly in your twenties and is exacerbated by exposure to the sun,  reduced water

intake, a change in the production of hormones -such as breastfeeding or menopause & poor lifestyle choices such as smoking.

What can you do to prevent wrinkles?

  • Avoid smoking
  • Reduce sun exposure
  • drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day
  • use Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-HO-ba) as a moisturiser.

Some people may be concerned that they cannot use Jojoba oil because they have "oily skin".  However jojoba oil isn’t actually oil but a pure liquid wax ester from cold-pressed seeds of desert shrubs native to the Sonora Desert.     Your skin type is not something you are particularly born with but simply an imbalance of sebum production. If you have dry skin then you are not producing enough sebum and if you have oily skin you are producing too much - probably causing those dreaded pimples!  As mentioned earlier, you will find your production of sebum may change throughout your life according to your hormones such as teenage oily skin, through to dry skin during breastfeeding and menopause.  Jojoba oil is suitable for any skin type as it actually assists the skin to regulate the production of sebum.  Jojoba oil is very similar to the sebum produced by the skin so it absorbs deep into your skin and mixes well with the sebum to assist in maintaining skin moisture and elasticity. Jojoba forms a thin non-greasy lipid layer preventing moistrure loss, unlike many common skincare products which evaporate once they’re on your skin’s surface.

Jojoba also contains nutrients such as vitamin E, B-complex, silicon, chromium, copper, zinc and iodine. Its antioxidant properties prevent rancidity and give it a very long shelf life as a moisturiser.   Apparently Native Americans would apply ground seeds of jojoba to scratches to speed healing and minimize scarring so it may well be good for stretch marks too!

Re: Natural Skin Care For Mothers

There are plenty of products that you could write about that come under the banner of 'natural skin care'.  For example, rosehip oil/cream, coconut oil/cream, bio-oil, emu oil/cream, lanolin, vitamin e cream/oil... You get the drift, there are hundreds of natural skin care products that can do the same thing.

I think this article is more about the benefits of jojoba than a general article about natural skin care for mothers, which is fine, however the title misrepresents the topic, by leading the reader to believe that this is the ONLY natural skin care product for mothers.

Natural skin care products are often responsible for allergic reactions as they aren't synthesised like their modern counterparts... As with all skin care products, caution and patch testing should be recommended for first time users.

Re: "Natural skin care products are often responsible for allergic reactions as they aren't synthesised like their modern counterparts.."

This is a controversial statement to make.  Many synthesised products contain numerous ingredients (such as alcohol and perfumes...etc..etc - see my other articles) that are responsible for allergic reactions, etc.,.thus why many women look to more natural alternatives.

Re:

That's true, many synthesised products do contain those common allergens... The truth is, that many natural products are just as likely to cause an allergic reaction merely because they aren't refined in any way.  It is just as important to do a patch test & wait 24hrs to see if you have an allergic reaction to a natural or organic product as it is with any products that use preservatives and additives.  It is also very important to be aware that many natural products have a much shorter shelf life due to the fact that they don't have additives.

Re:

Of course jojoba oil is known to have a very long shelf life... Perhaps you should also link this advice in a blog in one of the groups like Natural Living or Saving The Planet.

Thankyou for this advice llmunchkin - do you now how I can delete content once it has been posted?

By the way - I don't see how jojoba oil "saves the planet"

Re:

The group called Saving The Planet advocates the use of natural products to save the enviroment, perhaps if you looked at it, you would see what I mean.
