Re: How much at the grocery store?
Asked by LibbyS
Question:
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering how much other families spend at the grocery store? How many people do you buy for? Where do you shop? Does that included any things
like nappies or formula, or is it just food? Does that include everything, or do you buy meat, fruit, cleaners etc from somewhere else?
Just curious as to how our spending measures up to other families. Thanks in advance!
My Advice:
I spend for 2 adults and 2 kids 14yrs and 12yrs, a total of $120 per week. This is everything. I buy almost no brand names, unless they're on special. No cool drinks. Meat is mostly cheap cuts and is almost always (95% of the time) reduced to clear. I guess we eat 4-5meat meals a week. Almost every week I will buy a large tin of tuna to make tuna morney a family favourite, and very cheap to make. Today was my shopping day, which by the way that changes each week because I do RSM Quicksave which is my own creation and has it's own website you might like to check it out www.rsmshoptosave.com. So each 4th week I saved the entire $120 because it become a no shop week, you'll understand when you read the site. Anyway sometimes I might buy a heap of washing powder separate from the shopping, but not often. This is done with RSM money and probably only happens once a year. Yes I stick to a list, that is a must. Today my shopping came to $97. There was a couple of things I missed off the list, one was 6 cartons of we call Ben's milk. It's lactose free none was on the shelf, it sells for $1.87 now there were others that I could of bought but they were dearer, over $2.00. I work at the supermarket, where I shop, Woolworths in Mundaring W.A. So when they're up tomorrow I'll get them, I still have a couple in the cupboard. The other thing I had on the list was mince, none was marked down so I will get one tomorrow when it's marked down, as I know the times they do the mark downs. I have written a piece of advice about this very subject , "Getting to know your markdown times at the supermarket". Check that out it will help you a lot. Oh one last thing the 14 year old is a vegetarian, so that's 1 mouth less for meat, although she does eat chicken and fish. Lot's of fresh produce is good. The less packaged goods cost less. IE instead of buying a packet of tiny teddies that have lots of little packs in them, buy a box of plain brand equivalent and put them in small containers in the kids lunchbox for morning tea. Oh we don't buy eggs cause we have chooks.
Hope this helps a little.
