Moving from cot to bed

missjoy by missjoy Walking(August 2006) (rank 500+)

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me at what age their kids made the transition from cot to bed?

It is differen't for everyone, it really depends on the child, most children find the cot/crib as a security or comfort. I moved my daughter when she was 18 months as she loved sleeping in my bed and when she was in hospital she like being in a big kids bed. Though she still ends up sleeping behind the door if we leave the hallway light on she loves it and helps me to make it everymorning even though it doesn't stay made..lol. We also moved her early so by the time i give birth it won't be an issue.Moving from the cot to a single bed is a big deal so make sure nothing major is going on in your life (like a newborn or potty training etc) when the transition in made so make it easier for them.

Yes every child is different but there is a time frame from 2 - 4 years hope this gives you a general sence and remember when your bub is ready

Good
I think it is especially important to do it when the child is ready- and as missjoy said not because you have to, ie. with a newborn. you should definately make the transition before the other child ocmes along if it is necessary that they switch beds. Just to keep them happy and comfortable and ot feeling like they have been kicked out  :)

cot to bed

when i was buying a crib we looked at all available and puchased the crib that converted to a toddler bed ....so when the time comes that we feel she's able to sleep in a bed i will simply take a side of the crib off and attach the rail  that was provided so then there is some kind of protection from ma lil princess won't fall out of the bed. i'm thinkin that our crib/toddler bed will be good till around 5 years of age . so when the crib side comes off and the rail goes up depends on how fast ma princess progresses with life.

cheers darren

My baby 14 month old is in her big bed.

She finds her way to the otherside of the rail but I have tried to make it safe that if she falls out she does not hurt herself.  At 18months she is more likely to get herself out and maybe even up if not to high.

The bad thing is if they wake they could come visit you all hours of the night I remember my son doing this for alittle while.

We just had to play it up that he is a big boy and now has his own bed.

O
