Roast Dinner (Easy way)

zoolooau by zoolooau In Nappies(September 8th) (rank 500+)

I dont know if its really advice but more a little tip :)

When you think of a roast dinner you may think of standing there all day getting it ready and cooking it right?

Well I am currently cooking a roast while sitting here typing this up!

I remember being at home and when mum would do a roast it would seem to take her all day hehe. When I moved in with my boyfriend he said he was going to do one, I thought yeah ok i could see him doing all that work, But no he had a very easy way of doing it! And its almost as good as mums (nothing is ever better then mums hehe)

Anyway this is what you do, Get your roasting pan (we have a big black one) put about a inch to a inch and 1/2 of water in the bottom (looks like a lot)

Then put your roast in the middle (in the water, trust me)

Then chop up your potatos (you dont even have to skin them if you dont want to, just make sure they are washed if you dont peel them) Put them around your roast (you can also add carrots or sweet potato if you want, and depending on how big your roasting pan is)

Then place in oven for how ever long the roast takes to cook (usualy says on packing otherwise google it, google solves everything hehe)

Then chop up vegies (we usualy have cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussle sprouts (yuck hehe), carrot) Put them in a big sausepan (or a couple depending on how much you have) and 1/2 a hour before your roast is ready, put them on to boil (you can adjust the time for more or less squishyness)

When your vegis are finished DONT THROW AWAY THE WATER!!!! Use it to make gravy (we use the instant gravy that you just add boiling water, the vegi water)

Then plate up :)

If you get a big roast on specal these can be cooked up then the left overs can be used the next night for a different meal eg Chicken we use for carbonara, Pork can be a stur fry etc.

I hope this helps you enjoy more roasts!!!

Re: Roast Dinner (Easy way)

I cook my roast potatos in alluminium foil - keeps the heat in and cooks them nicely. I use oil instead of water and use floured oven bags for the chook

ooo alluminium foil would make them nice aswel, i sometimes add a bit of oil but water does the trick, and i havent hear of floured oven bags, but this comes out good so i dont bother making it any more complicated hehe

I'm gonna have to try that!  I'm always trying to find easy ways to prepare real meals rather than just cooking stuff from a box or the frozen meal in a bag.

Hehe I guess, I just love being able to have a roast dinner and not have to stand there and watch it. Oh well it will get pushed to the bottom but if it helps one person then thats all that matters lol.
