Save the Pumpkins!!!!

iloveyou by iloveyou Crawling(September 29th) (rank 500+)

Here is a new Twist. Carve a watermelon instead of a Pumpkin. They are much more yummy to eat, and they come out unique and very cute. We tried this a few years back and had such great success. Pick one out just like you'd pick out a pumpkin. Big

and can sit on it's end. Carve it just the way you would a pumpkin. Except eat the yummy insides. Add a candle and voilà!

Also for those of you gearing up for summer. Did you know that watermelon is a natural SPF?? I heard this on The John Tesh Radio Show. Below is the information that he provided. Log on to his site and search watermelons . www.tesh.com

  • Indulge in watermelon. It’s 92 percent water, which means it’s low cal. and it’s loaded with lycopene – a chemical that protects your heart and skin. And a one-inch slice of watermelon contains as much lycopene as 4 medium-sized tomatoes. Middle aged men with low lycopene levels are three times as likely to have a heart attack or stroke. Lycopene also helps your cholesterol from turning into artery clogging plaque. And it boosts your skin’s natural SPF.

    Have a spooky Halloween!

Thanks, think this is a great idea using a water melon instead of a pumpkin, for halloween.

I  didn't know water melon  contain lycopene, I found piece of your article very informative.

how cool!  Or we can mix it up with pumpkins and have eye catching color from the front porch.

Questions: Does the water melon last as long as pumpkins in terms of the amount it takes to rot? And is it any cheaper than buying pumpkins?

they rot about the same. i recommend carving them no more than 2 days before Halloween.  as for price im not sure. i buy mine from vendors who sell in the parking lots of grocery stores and such. those are more fresh, usually locally grown ( great for stimulating your community ) and are priced right.

That's a great twist on the traditional pumpking, especially since the southern hemisphere is coming into spring instead of fall / autumn!

It is simply a new Twist. Something different. Also just a helpful hint on the natural SPF. That's all. Don't get me wrong I love pumpkins! I love to roast the seeds and munch those. Every year that we carve we carve one of each. So much fun.

That looks so cool! We don't do the pumpkin carving here. Halloween is not very big in Australia but that watermelon does look spooky. Great idea, everyone does the pumpkin. I didn't know about it boosting your skins natural SPF so that is good to know. I love watermelon. Thanks.
