Pyloric Stenosis

happysmile by happysmile Standing(October 12th) (rank 500+)

When my son was 3weeks old, he was vomiting up every time i would feed him, my mid-wife said it was just reflux, i was still very concerned but all my family members told me the same thing, that it was reflux and being a mum for the first time

i listened.  a week and a half later he was still not keeping anything down so i ask the mid-wife to come and cheak it out, she weighed him and he had only put on alittle bit of wieght since last time she saw him, so she said to take him to the hospital, she said its most probly nothing and he's more than likely just a tiny baby. So when i got to the hospital, they did a ultrasound and said he had Pyloric Stenosis and that he would need a operation. They make a same cut where the muscle has over grown and he should feed fine within 24 hours.

Pyloric Stenosis causes severe vomiting, the doctor told me that it was more common in first born male babies and it was more common in caucasian males that any other and that they have at least 30 cases a month (well thats what i can remember, this happened 4yrs ogo). Pyloric Stenosis is a narrowing of the stomach to the intestine because the muscle surronding the opening enlarges, so basicly the food dose a u-turn and comes back up, some milk gets through but not much. I was also told that it is genetic but i have no history nor dose my husband. My son had key hole surgery so he has no scaring, he has been healthy ever since.
