Cool down food for kiddies quick

Jessgore by Jessgore Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 5th)

Just a little something :) maybe useful maybe not...

Instead of sitting there blowing on you childs food  waiting for it to cool down,  as the food sits in front of them and they druel while you sit there blowing on it wondering just when you are going to give it to them. I just turn on the oven fan and put it under for a bit... It cools down a lot quicker then blowing on it...

Just a little something. :)

I use the freezer too, I dish up the youngest's first and pop it in while the rest of us get our plates around and we get her into her seat - by them time she's ready to eat it's ready to be eaten. :)

Food Cool Down...
Since I use plastic bowls when I get my younger boys food ready, I just stick it in the freezer and check it every 30 seconds to 1 minute.  Works great and when it is cool enough for them to eat, I then get them to the table and pull it out of the freezer.  Make sure to stir it when you remove it from the freezer and check it to be sure of the right temperature.  :o)  Great idea you have as well...I just wish I had a fan for the oven.  Sometimes the freezer is too full lol.

Heaps of great tips in here....

So many good ideas.

  • Fan oven
  • Freezer or fridge
  • Cook things seperately so hotter items can cool down.
  • Add an iceblock
  • Or plain old blow on it to cool it.

Thanks everyone!  I can see all these will come in handy in different instances.
Peace

Hot food
I try and do the opposite of what I would for our food - I cook it so that it is ready not all at the same time. If I am doing a pie or something in the oven, I finish that and take it out, put it on the plate and spread it out, then cook the peas (for example). That way, once the peas are ready, they cool quite quickly and the pie is ready. Doesn't always work and I sometimes resort to blowing, but these suggestions are all helpful. Thanks

ice

Here's one to try - if it is a pasta sauce or soup etc I put an ice block in to cool it down.

Fridge
I don't think there are any health hazards of putting the bit of food in the freezer to helpit cool the cool air does a much quicker job of it but the food can not be heated and cooled repeatedly so after if bub has a little left chuck it away never though tof the oven fan tho I don't think we have one

Hot food.

I'm a slack mum.

I sit there and blow and make them drool.

Both of my children have way of waiting for food.  They will be at my feet once the food is cooked.

So my olderson learnt hot food very quick.   No even my daughter has learnt hot already.  Although I do tell her the oven is hot and she wants to help cook.  I really do think she has a grasp of the concept.

Most of the time I dish my chidrens food first then us parents and by the time they are ready the kids plates are much cooler.

O
