starting school

Dawn by Dawn Talking Back(August 2006) (rank 56th)

My 4year  old ,Tara-Jade, is starting school next week n she is so happy about it ,every morning she asks me 'is it time to go to big school today mummy' and i tell her not today babez soon.the thing is i feel sick thinking about her going and

having to leave me ,i didnt have the best of time a school am i just worring to much .i need to know how do i cope with the first day / week ,without letting her know im unset.i also have an 11mth old Isabella.

This is the time when our little ones take the test flight of independence. it is also the time when they learn how to interact with other kids their own age, and this is a very important part of their development! I know that every Mom and some Dads are nervous wrecks when sending their little ones off to school for the first time.(seperation anixety) but might I suggest that you keep upbeat about her schooling even though you yourself had a bad experience. You will now find more time for Isabella, and yourself. When Tara-Jade comes home from school each day, be upbeat ask her how her day went, ask her what she likes best, ask her who her new friends are, and praise any work she brings home.Be as excited about what is happening in her new world as she is. Also you need to remember that if you do have any concerns, you can always talk to her teacher. One more thing, when you say goodbye to her at school make sure that you leave, don't hang around at least not where she can see you. After a few days I am sure you will be relaxed enough to enjoy this new part of her life as much as she does. I always find it so cute to see those little girls standing together holding hands and whispering their new little friend secrets.good luck and breath my dear your little girl is going to be fine!

because some of us didn't have a great time at school, ( i got teased alot ) doesn't mean that our children will experience the same thing. I agree to always be happy and cheerfull when they get home from school. if your happy, they're happy.

school
unfortunately, we can't just 'make them wait another year' until we're both ready! although it would give us that  whole extra year to prepare ourselves and wonder where the time went, and where has my extra year gone!?

My girl was so excited about going to school. I followed her lead! I was nervous as my hubby. Now she is in her 3 rd year (inc kinder and prep) and she is so keen on school.

Great Advice

...especially about leaving quickly.  It makes it easier on everyone (especially the teacher)!

I would recommend also reading books together about the first day of school.  One that I love is called "the Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn; it's great for kids and their poor mommies!   Good luck!
