As soon as bub begins to sit and stand she is at risk from variouse hazards. Your the one who must protect her so you must be organised in advance. Never leave the bub or any young child, alone in the house or car. Keep a list of important phone
numbers by your phone. And below is a list of common house hazards and suggestions on how to reduce any risk to your bub.
FIRE - Open fire's should have strong, safe, well fixed fire guards in front of them. Hot radiators or electric and gas heaters should have a guard or be out of bub's reach. Don't be tempted to dry clothes over a fire guard. Buy close fitting pj's or made from non-flammable material.
WATER - Eveen a few centermeters of water in a bucket can pose a drowning hazard so.. Keep nappy buckets out of reach and with lids on, make sure to drain bath water out as soon as your done. When your bub becomes a toddler keep the bathrom door shut while filling the bath and also the toilet door or the lid on the loo. If you have a pool, or your bub can get to one, remember this always make sure bub is supervised, learn CPR and resusitation, remove bright floating toys so bub is not tempted to dive in and play again, make sure the fence surrounding the pool is not easy to cimb, keep the gate and fence around the pool well maintained and gate always shut, empty wading pools when done. Drowning is quick and silent so always keep watch.
House Clean - Nobody expects a house where a baby resides to be spotless, and there is not much chance of it being completly germ free either. But there are a few important areas of the house to be careful about. Floors especially when bub begins to crawl, cleaning rags and chemicals to be locked away, covers over power points, cooking pot handles not hanging over where bub may be tempted to grab (including cords eg kettle), don't leave hot drinks on low tables like coffee tables. Beware of table cloths too they like to pull on these as well.
