Take your vitamins

pfallerj by pfallerj Proud Parent(August 2006) (rank 12th)

Today's first time parenting tip - Give your baby a multivitamin during the winter months.

Now that your baby is moving into a solid food based diet rather than a breast milk or formula based one, you might be wondering if your baby is getting the right nutrients and

minerals. A good way to make sure is to feed them all kinds of different fruits and vegetables. Different colors mean different vitamins, so feed accordingly.

One vitamin that often gets missed is Vitamin D. It usually comes from the sun, but is missing from breastmilk and formula. So around the age of 7 or 8 months, you might want to think about giving your baby a multivitamin, like Provisol from Enfamil, to supplement their diet and give them the Vitamin D they miss out on during the winter months.

Talk to your pediatrician about when to give a multi, and what one to give. Just to prepare you , they smell absolutely horrid and taste even worse. Just the high price you pay to have a healthy baby I guess.

vitamin D
The recommended time in the sun for an infant in summer is 5 minutes and in winter around 25- 30 mintues so as to get the rdi of vitamin D. i know its not always possible but it isnt always too hard either. it doesnt have to be in one block. think- how long does it take to you put out and bring in the washing? water the garden? playing in a park! stuff like that is all you really need.

Vitamin
I agree feeding bub lots of puree veg and fruit even mixed together is a good idea, but with the day to day exposure to sunlight even in winter for Australia this should be enough vitamin D esp in school aged children whom do physed and after school sports. Always consult a dr if concerned but generally speaking I think babies and children wouldn't need any vitamin suppliments

Try a drug store

I picked them up at RiteAid here in the US...I imagine any drug store or health store would probably have them.

vitamins
Can you find these vitamins anywhere? I don't think ive seen them around for babies around the age of 7-8mths. I know my daughter will be 10 mths on boxing day. So I will talk to my doctor in a few months, before winter arrives. Thanks!
