oral electrolyte powders

yummy-mummy by yummy-mummy Speaking(September 2006) (rank 293rd)

Hi there everyone, 6 days ago my 1 year old boy got a bug and ended up vomitting every 3 hours for a day as well as having a temperature. The temperature and vomittimg stopped after 24hrs but then diarreha started and is still going.  He's been off is

solid food since he started vomitting and has been living on breast milk since. He's drinking about  6 breast feeds a day at the moment. I'm concerned about dehydration because he poos about 6 times a  day (diarreha). Also.. does anybody know any foods I can try to help with his diarreha ?

Cheers

Concerned Dad.

hiya you should try Dioralyte sachets in blackcurrant or orange,i always have them in the house for myself or the kids ,here is some info for you about them .Dioralyte replaces body fluids n salts lost during illness.Dioralyte is recommended for the correction of water n salt loss in infants ,childrenn edults n the treatment of watery dierrhoea of various causes.early use is important to avoid dehydration, particularly in the young n elderly.

Dose ; infants up to the age of 2years ;one to one n a half  sachets in 24 hours .(each sachet dissolvad in 200mls of water) i dont think you should worrie to much about dehydration as you son is still having breast milk .

if it carries on you should go see your doctor.

i hope this helps you .lou

Loose Poops
I use Kaeopectate when my kids get those bad poops. It always seem to work.  Or talk him to the Doctor. See if you could get him to drink some water, eat some crackers.  Try foods that would bung him up like cheese.

actually i was going to suggest cheese... especially if you can get your hand s on the cheese they put in the army's ration packs! i tell ya what... i will NEVER eat that stuff unlessi am about to be hospitlised for it!

also a note on those ration packs- DO not let anyone eat the chocolate unless they are constipated. :)  the cheese and chocolate in those packs are like the mushroom in alice in wonderland!

Although- it doesnt effect the bowels if you eat both the cheese AND the chocolate ( so my brother found out after a wekk or two of experimenting toilet and ER trips!
