Fruit in your child's day

mcm by mcm Young Parent(September 2006) (rank 4th)
It is recommended we should eat 5 veg, 2 fruit. Here are ideas for including fruit in your day.

Breakfast

  • add fruit to cereal or yogurt
  • banana toast (if you can afford them)
  • make pancakes and add grated apple and pear
  • Make a fruit smoothie with strawberry, banana (again if you can afford it), with low fat milk, yogurt and ice
Snacks

  • fresh fruit is always handy though children may prefer it cut up
  • freeze fruit like grapes, strawberries and oranges for those hot days
  • Puree fruit and freeze to put in cold drinks
  • add fruit to muffin and cake mixes

Meals

  • include dried fruit in stuffing
  • add fruit to salads eg. orange and apple to a tossed salad (a fruit salad is also nice)
  • add dried apple of apricot, chopped to cous cous

These are yummy and quick ways to eat enough fruit, I hope it helps others as it has inspired me. I am wanting to eat them all right now!!

fruits

Matthew absolutely loves fruits, especially bananas! He can eat fruits all day long and nothing else.. unfortunately, his bums suffers - diaper rash. So I really have to put a limit on it.

Fruit time and/or fruit dessert
Luckily at my son's playgroup they have fruit time. So, at least I know that my son will eat some fruits (how do I know, I always ask him everytime I pick him up). We also serve fruits as dessert sometime, and to make it fun, we eat them with vanilla ice cream. When it's not school days, I also make fruit time, so instead having biscuit for snacking I serve fruits.

fruity friday
On friday my daughter goes to playgroup the children all enjoy a plate of fruit and its great. we also cut up apple and pears when the children get back from school and also recently bought a juicer so hear exactly what your saying about fruit, say have you ever tried a frozen orange.after its frozen fairly hard the children can eat out the flesh with a spoon like sorbet. My mum used to do it for us on hot school days.

Summer fruits
I am looking forward to Summer and the tasty fruits eg. berries, mango, nectarines, melons, etc. Yum - freeze fruit for those hot days.
