small pleasures

mewannaboy by mewannaboy Speaking(September 2006) (rank 500+)
I remember a time when as a child i would enjoy past times like collecting leaves, rocks and flowers I would love looking for different shapes and colours which were exciting and try and find the largest ones and race with my sister to get the nice smooth rocks. Remember making daisy
chains ,i stare longingly at the daisies now and feel so sad for them.Where are all the children picking flowers, riding bikes and skipping in the drive way, they are inside with their faces stuck to a tv or a nintendo. I will not buy my children any computer games or x-box or any of these as i will not have them turning to the tv for their imagination. They are really funny, adventurous kids and i want them to be out kicking balls ,climbing the odd tree and picking flowers. When my daughter was 1 she would love banging pots and plastic ware together..she did have some nice toys but she enjoyed the spoon banging noises she made herself and do you know how exciting a balloon is. I played with a balloon with all my children on the floor ,we had played for an hour before we realised it was time for lunch. That other pastime i miss is dress-up where we raided mums high heels and long "hippy" skirts and pranced around the loungeroom floor. My kids love this and recently when we visited some relatives the children got to play dress-ups with them.I love it when the children race home from school to show me pretty stones they have picked up along the way,it really makes me smile and pray they always enjoy small plaesures like these even at 32...like mum!!

Imagination Rulz
I think the best thing in the world is using imagination.  I see the games that E plays, usually every toy becomes some character, and she bestows each with the name of her friends.  When I bother to listen in and try follow the play that is happening it is intricate and so revealing about things she has learnt recently.  Somet hat I dont even know she has learnt.  Often it is so involved taht it requires 100% of my attention - on occasion I would be so bold as to say it rivals Shakespeare.
Natural play is a blessing on so many many different levels.
Peace

Where have all the children gone...
To many these days are being treated like adults...  Fine if you need to explain something but some times kids just need to be kids...  Imagination as jadielady says Rocks... And although sometimes the play station comes in handy I am greatful that my step daughter loves to do things with me at times.. And if I show enough intrest in it she too thinks what ever we do is fun...

My brother and I dress up in palm branches

One day during summer as children I remember that my brother and I dressed up in palm branches.

I think we were ment to be islanders.  Playing in the back yard does not have to be expensive.

I even have made my son use leaves to paint with instead of paint brushes.  It makes us use our imagination.
