The 4 steps to Success : supporting Self-Esteem and Learning

tinker79 by tinker79 Talking Back(September 2006) (rank 99th)
  1. Get his or her Attention
  2. Show her/him how to do it.
  3. Watch... and wait for him/her to do it by him/herself.
  4. Praise her/him for what she/he has done.

This  a great technique to use for stacking blocks or anything you want your

baby/ child to do. It always seems to work for growing great kids. Remember teaching begins at birth.

and don't forget patience!
Parents have to learn and exhibit patience when little ones are learning. Little ones will eventually do things on their own and they will not make it at first. But we have to restrain ourselves from jumping in and helping. Making mistakes is a part of learning.  Good advice!

This is all good but my son has a speech problem

He does not do well with instuction.

I have to keep tasks easy and understandable.

Like this morning I said clean room then you may watch TV.  As the next few days he is at kindy.  I want to vac his room so he must clean his room.

So I've been told that I do need to instruct and tell him what I am doing so he can learn to do it next time.

Praise him and tell him why I am praising him.   His self esteem is low as he knows he has a problem and if he is open enough he will learn the new sounds and words.

Thanks

O

This is all good but my son has a speech problem
Try making his chore fun, and helping him. Try the clean up song. Everybody clean up while singing. My son also has a speech problem and I use a sing song voice when I speak to him/or want him to do something(he is only 3)  Check out my article about top 10 helpful hints for speech or more language hints.  Hopefully those will help.
