Do you see what I see?

Why to do this activity -  to support parents in making a safe home for their babies, also to help parents ''see'' what their babies''see'' and can get into.

 How to do this activity

  1. Crawl around the house
  2. Find things that could be
    dangerous for the baby
  3. On your trip around the house, use a toliet paper cardboard roll for checking out items babies could possibly swallow or choke on.
  4. Some things to check out for safety are
  •  sharp corners
  • knicks knacks
  • steps and stairs
  • pet food
  • plants
  • spaces between rail protecting stairs and or porches
  • Nails or things sticking out of furniture
  • electrical cords and sockets
  • furniture that could fall on baby
  • dangling cords for window shades and appliances
  • pails with water in them
  • toliets(keep lids down)
  • small objects on the floor
  • glass table tops
  • cleaning supplies and poison for pests( should be baby safed)
  • bookshelves not firmly attached to the wall
  • this is not including hot stoves, hot irons, gas lanterns, cans of fuel, cooking fires or grills etc..

You would be surprised on how things look from on the floor at baby's point of view. A bookshelf might look like a good way to get up on things.  Furniture that could fall on baby if they give it a tug on. Sometimes it could be T.V. trays for example.

Most of these are common sense and basic care, but it is still a fun way to keep your babies and children safe.

Hope you find this helpful, I did when my 3 year old was born and I still do now. It sure helps when you have an ''active little boy'' that always seems to get in some sort of trouble. Always getting into something or another. A gate didn't even seem to hold him back.

funny thing with child safety gates

Just last night at the ER (nothing serious!) i witnessed a little boy, maybe 4 years old, climb up a gate , pull the thing at the top which then opened the gate, allowing him access to the toy area.  This was no ordinary gate, but the same kind they use for pools.

Makes you reconsider how protective that rule about pool fences really is doesn't it?

What a great Idea

That would give you a bit of insight of what your kids actually see.

fantastic....

Then once you have done that, get a friend who has a two year old, and ask them to let their kids run free, and you will see that what you thought could not be broken actually can.....
