Getting Things Done (Starting those jobs you keep putting off)

Frontier by Frontier Young Parent(September 2006) (rank 21st)
When we are busy working and caring for our family we often find it hard to motivate ourselves to do those unpleasant or major project type chores that never seem to get done. It could be something in the garden or cleaning the tiles in the shower, writing an assignment, uncluttering
the house or even just the regular housework. We often find it easier to find an exscuse not to do and promise ourselves we will do it when we get time.
A little thing I discovered when I was doing my Bachelor of Education at Melbourne Uni part time while working in a management role full time was to make a little promise to myself that I would spend at least 15 minutes on the current assignment every night and if I didn't get into it I would stop after 15 minutes. This was a degree saver for me as the last thing I wanted to do was work on an assignment after working a long day. The idea of having to work on a whole assignment was enought to convince me to do it later when I was not tyred but of course then I ended up cramming it all into all nighters in the final days and achieved average results and was exhausted when I went to work.
Once I heard about the 15 minute promise method I found it a lot easier to get started on a project. It worked so well I use it all the time and I usually find that once I do my 15 minutes I am on a roll and usually complete the task I had been putting off.

Give it a try and see how you go.

This is a great idea, 15mins is certainly a manageable amount of time to commit to important tasks, I think I will apply it right now to tidying up after mini hurricane jayden.

15 mins
it is a great amount of time to concentrate for.  They say that in school children will concentrate for 20 mins of a lesson, and to make the most of those first 20 mins.  So 15 mins is an easy time to do as an adult.  (well i think it is)  then I can have four of them in an hour and possibly be very productive - esp if i am on minti for all four of them....lol...nah, minti.... kitchen.... minti.... bathroom works very well for our housework regime.
Peace
