Babies Clothing Size Guide

michellei by michellei Talking Back(September 2006) (rank 45th)
Size                           Weight                          Height                          Age

Premmie
Less than 3.5kg         Less than 47cm        Premmie

New Born                 up to 4kg                      47cm-55cm               New Born (NB)

000                            4kg-6kg                        55cm-60cm               0-3 Months

00                              6kg-8kg                        60cm-70cm               3-6 Months

0                                8kg- 10kg                     70cm-75cm               6- 12 Months

1                               10kg-12kg                    75cm-80cm               12-20 Months

18                             11kg-12kg                    80cm-84cm               16-20 Months

2                                84cm-90cm                84cm-90cm                18-30 Months

2x                                                                                                           2-3 Years

This is just a guide line, but obviously some children will be in different size brackets. Miss Cheeky Chops is in the top 95th percentile height chart, she is usually off the chart and her weight is mid range. So although she is two, she wears size 3 bottoms and size 4 tops.

Please remember to take into account your family statistics and that there is no right and wrong size for your child. This is meant to be a guide line for gift giving and unsure parents .

If you are at all concerend with you childs development please see you Community Care Centre or baby health nurse.

Re: Babies Clothing Size Guide

thanks for the article.  I'm in the US and we have a different scale, the dreaded inch, lol, but i'm always forgetting the size to get for my neices.  And I often find that weight is not a good thing to go by as, like my son, he is only lbs, but is 3-6m, where as many 0-3 say they would fit.  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for stopping by

I had completely forgotten about inches and the American market when I wrote this article.

Maybe a gap for someone else to fill?!?

Re: Babies Clothing Size Guide
These are fairly accurate guidelines to use... Of course, as with adult clothes, some brands have variances and are more generous than others - however if in doubt, get a size bigger.

I think people who are buying gifts for family and friends will find this very helpful too.

Another size chart
I did a google search today for clothes sizes and landed on your blog. Very helpful. I was also looking for children's sizes and came across a babies and children's standard size chart.

It has size / age / height /weight /chest measurements for newborns up to age 15years.

The addy is:

Hope this is useful to someone.

It's all relative!
When I was pregnant all my friends said "don't buy anything under 000 they are only in it for a few weeks".  My son was born 2.4kg and I had to rush out and buy clothes that were 00000 and for premmies (Target was the only place - go Target!).  He was very slow to grow and even at almost four is still in size 2!  My daughter however was 3.3 kg born - in 0000 for a few weeks then grew quickly.  At 6 months she was already in 0 (and the size of him at twelve months), while at six months he was still in 000.  At 9 months she is starting to get into sz1, so they can almost share clothes.  Guidelines are great if you have a child that fits them!  Anyway, thanks for the advice - I had no idea when I was pregnant what to buy so this would have been quite useful!

Thank you for your comments.
I know that babies are different and they all wont fit in the mold, Miss Cheeky Chops is 2 and in size 4/5 clothes. She needs the length as she's tall.
My article is ment to be a general size guide to help people out

I hate it when shops start changing sizes on you. When I had my first son 000 was for a newborn. This time around I went and bought 000 for my new baby but when i went to dress her they were huge. I ended up having to take them back and replace them for 00000. I think target is the only shop in my town (very tiny town) that actually seels anything under 000. Good advice.

Well, the shps obvoiusly dont know much about babies sizes, as liam was a day late, 7 pound 9  and  over 55 cm. yet none of the shops sold clothes the right size for him. he was 00000 and the shops called that premie. what the?   target now sells clothes  sized 000000.

I can't believe that you couldn't find something more suitable for your son. I know Target sell the really small sizes - when I see some that small I can't even comprehend that a baby fits into them.

We don't have those size's here in Canada. Like the 000, 00, or 0.. We do have Premmie, new born... then it goes 3mths 6 mths 9mths 12 mths 18mths and then I think it goes size 1, 2 3... Then so on...
