A Bath Full of Toys

tracey by tracey Young Parent(September 2006) (rank 13th)

Here's a little trick I came up with. I consider it under the category of using 'an everyday object in a whole new way'.

Since the tiles on my bathroom walls are slightly textured, I have never been able to hang a "bath toy holder" with suction cups

in the tub for my kids stuff. What I came up with is using a simple, white plastic dish drainer. Yes, you heard me. As the water is draing out of the tub, I put the dish drainer in and toss all the toys in it. When the tub is drained of water, all that remains is a "bin" full of the bath toys. They dry off overnight and I can stow the whoel container under the sink until the next bathtime!

I encourage you all to post some advice under this category. Any items around your house that you use in a unique way that might help make our lives as parents any easier?? Post 'em! We want to hear them.

bath toys

Hi there

I used to put my kids in an oval washing basket in the bath. It helped to keep them upright and they could still reach their toys as they began to float away.

Its also a great excuse for not having the washing done..."but honey, tommy had to have a bath and i needed the basket!!"  hehe!

bath toys

Here are some toys my 1 year old (just turned yesterday) loves  http://www.schooldelay.com/webstore/index.php?target=categories&category_id=172

I love this stuff… here are some really cool toys to check out…

http://www.schooldelay.com/webstore/index.php?target=products&product_id=1611

They have bath goods which are these pieces of plastic foam that stick to your walls of the tub. my kids love them  you can pull them down and stick them back up, all you have to do is wet them... no mildews issues either. they also have a thing called a flo you put it on your spout and it protects the kids heads from bumps and you can also put bubble bath in it.http://www.schooldelay.com/webstore/index.php?target=products&product_id=1620

I have gone a little Boon crazy and my only disappointment was the frog pod… My favorite  is the animal bag….it is a giant bean bag without the beans … you put all of those extra stuffed animals your kids won’t let you throw away in it. It is awesome check it out  http://www.schooldelay.com/webstore/index.php?target=products&product_id=1609

There are 3 different sizes…..this website is really cool…. They gave me a free t-shirt and a great deal on shipping before  x-mas…

We use a mesh bag
It has the same effect.  The dish drainer is a great idea as well.  It's so frustrating to get into the tub and trip on a cup or rubber duckie.

regarding bath toys

When we moved I had an extra utinsel caddy from our old dishwashing machine. It has a handle and little compartments. Shampoo bottles and such fit neatly into each little compartment. And the caddy allows all water to drain out ... Also in our new house we have two washrooms upstairs and one down .... the caddy is also portable ! Very convenient !

I saw something like this recently
It was a toy frog, the frog part came off and was a scoop to pick the toys up and hooks back into the frogs body, and drained overnight. the frog attached easily over the tap. very cute idea!

Bath Toys
I gave it a try works well - only problem, my son is now more interested in the holder and just empties all the toys out of the bath to pay with the hold (favourite game is putting it on his head or trying to sit in it OUCH) Great Idea.

Neat Idea
Neat idea Tracy!  I'm going to have to invest in one.  I keep peanut butter jars handy.  We eat A LOT of peanut butter in our home.  When we finish a container, I run it through the dishwasher a couple of times.  I then use it to store the kids smaller items, eg, crayons, magnetics, money, puzzles, and so on.  I've even used them to store macaroni, goldfish crackers, and the like.  The kids love keeping their stuff in them which I love because that means their stuff isn't laying on the floor :)
