Pre-baby Shopping List

BebeBuzz by BebeBuzz Speaking(September 2006) (rank 443rd)

As my due date approached I could not find a complete list anywhere of the essential items I needed to have in the house upon arrival home from the hospital. I decided to make one up to help my friends so they wouldn't have to worry in the last minute. I suggest going to the store a few weeks before your due date and picking up these items to store in a closet so you will be all prepared for that first week home. I hope this helps.

  • 2 packages of diapers (1 in the smallest size and one in the 2 nd smallest size – this way you will have one package of the right size and you can send your husband out to return the wrong one)
  • small package q-tips
  • Vaseline
  • Soothies – 1 package (they are gel inserts for your bra *if nursing)
  • nursing pads (if nursing)
  • Lanisoh nipple cream (if nursing)
  • 1 package burp cloths
  • nursing bra (bring to hospital)
  • nursing shirt (bring to hospital)
  • nursing pads (bring to hospital)
  • starter set of bottles
  • infant nail file and clipper
  • diaper cream (Triple Paste, Balmex, A&D ointment)
  • receiving blankets (for swaddling)
  • microwave bottle sterilizer (will save a lot of time rather than boiling water)
  • bottle brush
  • onesies
  • pads with wings in several sizes (you will be bleeding to some extent for at least a month)
  • bassinette/crib sheet
  • infant car seat (for arriving home from the hospital)
  • Bundle Me or warm blanket (for winter babies)
  • baby wipes
  • rubbing alcohol
  • pacifiers (2)
  • Purell (a few bottles)
  • Dreft laundry detergent
  • stain spray for laundry
  • stain spray for upholstery and carpet
  • Extra Strength Tylenol (for you, not the baby) an outfit to wear home from the hospital (for the baby)
  • few cans of formula (if you are not nursing)
  • package of socks (for the baby)
  • AA, AAA, C, & D batteries. All of your toys, swings, etc. will need them

List for home
Dont forget to have something special for the mom...coming from a husbands point of view!  How about a foot massager? Another thought is to pre-cook meals and freeze them, so you can throw them in the microwave for no brainer meals!

baby hair brush
Since we come from thick hair family, I always prepare baby hair brush...and I did need them. Both kids born with thick hair, I had to brush them after bath. I also bought baby gloves so the baby won't scratch her/his face.

Shopping list

Good Advice. I would watch out on the q-tips though because you aren't suspose to use them on newborn babies because if you go in to deep and not know it you could do alot of damage to their ear drums. I read this up in a book that i recieved from the doctors office. Whats the rubbing alcohol for? I hope not the baby. Because the only reason I ask is because I was never told to use it and my baby turned out perfectly fine.

the q-tips and the rubbing alcohol are for putting on the unbilical cord after the baby gets home from the hospital.  It dries the "stump" out and keeps it clean so that it falls off fast.  The nurse in the hospital told me to do that once a day until the umbilical cord stump drops off.
