nappies

mace-oz by mace-oz Talking(September 2006) (rank 151st)
Hi i am a first time mum to be and i was just wanting to know what are the best brands of nappies to buy and where to get them from.  I dont necessarily want to buy expensive ones.
We tried huggies in the beggining and found them ok,
but my son inherited his fathers large thighs and huggies are a little tighter than other brands - this may be because of the quality. I have found purchasing snugglers from big w rather than any other outlet in best as only big w have the mega box for the same price as other stores. hope this helps if you child has large legs.

Re: nappies

I have found the Aldi nappies as good as Huggies and my son has also has my husbands solid build, out of approx 10 lots of nappies I have only had 6 overnight leakages but apart from that he is in them from 7.00pm until he wakes at 6.30.  Hope this helps you

Re: nappies

i actually find the wollies brand is quite fitted as my nephew is quite abig boy so saying that huggies and snugglers sound good as they well known and the best on the shelf i dont think sometimes i think itsgood to give the less expencive brand ago first i  seem think some cheaper brands to be more about comport and fitting as for looks and advertisment. like i said my nephew has big legs and woolies brand or the coles brand have fitted his legs quite comfortably

Re: nappies

Hi, ha! first time adding my new found mothering skills to the universe!!

My best advice for any new mum is to go to ALDI, dont worry if you have issues going into a discount shop (you will be surprised how many women say they do find it uncomfy). The nappies are called MAMIA, I swear by them and so do every new mum I have met. They are cheap as chips, 56 nappies for about $15.00. The wipes are great too, 80 for $2.99. I reckon even if they were double the price I would still buy them. Made in Germany. Since its almost 7 months since u asked, thought this may help other mums too.

ps. what a great website!!

Sign up for samples....
Google up Sample Nappies or diapers and join up to the baby websites.. You will get lots of samples and you can test which ones work for you..  I signed up on the huggies website and found that they also sent samples of their bath soaps and other wonderful things... WHen my son was born I was a sampleholic... I signed up for every thing that sent free samples.... And I found a lot of good products doing this. Also not so good ones but it comes down to personal opioion...

I have not found this the case in Australia. None of the sites I have signed up to (Huggies included) have offered free samples. Have any other Aussies out there found Australian sites with free samples?

Yea in the US they get overloaded with free baby stuff! Here in Oz I suggest you try emailing baby product companies, many will send free stuff. That's what I have done and many have responded too. Email as many as you can think of - you will amazed at what some companies will send you!

Oh sorry about that. I have to remeber when recomending things like that where I am now...  So maybe I should have mentioned in Canada it is possible.. Hmm I will have a look around and see if I can find some Aussie sites that will do this... It is a bit of a bummer if they don't offer the same service all around....

Go Generic
I buy my diapers at Walmart. They have an in house brand that is just as good as any other, holds lots of fluid and keeps the bum dry. Generic diapers are much less expensive (we buy a box of 96 for $22 where Huggies and Pampers are over $30 for the same amount, sometimes less) AND offer the same quality. With the amount of diapers you will be using, generic is always the best bet. Unless of course, money is not an issue and you really want the name brand.

hi there

do you know much about modern cloth nappies, they are all the rage now, they not only keep bub dry and look great but they are also alot cheaper as well, you wash them and re use them, the lineings are made with hemp and they are super absorbant and easy to use no pins ect, i got mine from green nappies it has a turtle logo on them, i can't remember the web address but i guess if you type in green nappies it will probably come up(there also an australian company)

Green Kids
Green Kids? Is that the one? I think they used to be called Green Nappies. They make nappies with pockets which you put hemp inserts into. Click on my pic to see my blog where I have a photo of these - Thomas and a green one.
There are many different types of modern cloth available. You can also use terry flats or prefolds (more absorbant) which are very inexpensive.
For disposables keep an eye out for specials. We used to stock up when they were on special at the supermarket for $30 box. (We now use mcn - modern cloth)
