GERMS ARE GOOD

libbylincoln by libbylincoln Talking Back(September 2006) (rank 68th)

i have just heard that dirty faced kids may actually be healthier than cleaned ones .

someone in the up found that kids who are exposed to germs in early life are beter protected then those who are keeped spotless at all times .

it seems the children

who are keeped to clean are more vulnerable to disease than those who grow up playing in the mud.

so a dirty enviroment can sometimes be considered much beter as it will boost the childs immune system.

so all the times we have been getting paranoid about over cleaning our kids because  we dont want them to get sick we actually should be letting them run free to have fun and get dirty.

i know my kids love to get dirty all the time specially my daughter likes to make mud cakes, and many people always told me to clean her up fast or she would get sick.well i have proven the germ fact right because my kids have never been sick and hers are all the time .

so mothers out there iam not saying have your kids walk around disguisting iam just saying dont be over protective you dont have to run around with wipes every minut of the day, give tehm a bath once a day that is enought i think.

Re: GERMS ARE GOOD

Hello,I was one of these mother that used to run aorund with a face washer and a cloth in hand wiping my 1 child hands and face all the time and any dirty mark he may have put on a wall.My mother used to tell me to let him go and get a bit dirty and play in the dirt as she said it was healthy for their imune system to get a bit dirty. They say it can prevent asthma too ,but unfortunatly my youngest took it to extreme he would eat the dirt I tried many ways to stop him from eating it, he is now an asthmatic and home from school again today with it (change of weather). My middle 2 children are my healthiest.

boys
As a mum to 4 boys they love getting dirty from the day they could crawl.....my boys never had a clean face let alone clean hands and legs. People use to look at me if to say what dont you bath your kids, as fast as l would clean them they would be dirty again. l found the more dirt they had on them the happyier they where  as for the point germs are good for them l believe so my boys hardly ever get sick. My 3 year old is always coming out with stuff he has hidden from that morning or the day before, he seems to like it stale. l keep a clean house with 4 boys dont get me wrong. But they love there dirt and mud etc. Enjoy let your kids have fun in the dirt!!!

kids and germs

My girls LOVE to play outside and get dirty. I don't mind it, they are having fun, they are not locked up in the house all day, they are healthy and that's all that matters.

My little man manages to pick up food that he chomped on earlier in the day ( the bits that i miss).

It doesn't mean we have to live in a rubbish dump, our home is usally mopped and vaccumed a couple of times a week, our children are bathed, they have clean clothing, but when it comes to them jumping in mud puddles and making mud cakes etc etc they are just being kids, let them be kids!

Go ahead get dirty

My kids are magnets to outside and the dirt. LOL I love it too.  My friend who has all boys got a little upset with me, as I have a girl, I let her ride through the puddles, puddle jumping, play in the mud ...... anyways she said i have a girl and she should not  be playing in the mud. My daughter is a tom-girl at times, and than my little princess.

Doesn't everything taste better when it is off the carpet or the floor for our little people's?

Kids and germs

I have a real problem with all the "grem busting" cleaners that are on the market at the moment. Anti-bacterial this and that. I saw a programme where they had sent people out to test for bacteria like salmonella and listeria (I think) it people's sinks, dish drainers and dish clothes and found really high levels across the board. But if you think about it, the biggest risk of food poisoning is at restaurants. So all these supposedly high levels of germs have no real effect, as long as you are sensible with not mixing cooked and uncocked food. My point is that the manufacturers would have us cleaning and sterilising everything (especially with their products) in order to chase awy these horrible germs that are actually more likely to build up our resistance than wipe us out. Make your environment too clean and suddenly we are at far bigger risk. I was chatting to one of the staff at my daughter's nursery yesterday and he mentioned that he hasn't had a cough or cold for years and that must be because he is exposed to so many bugs.

I agree that we need to lighten up and let the children explore. My lad seems to think that sandpit sand  is particularly tasty and Leala will regularly eat raisins and rice cakes that she had hidden down the side of the car seat three weeks before,,, I think my favourite as a child was coal, apparently. I say expose them to germs at an early age. The part of the body that deals with fighting infection is approximately five times bigger (proportionately) in young children as it is in adults. The human body is an amazing thing!

With boys there's no choice...
Good advice - even if I wanted to I couldn't keep my 2 boys clean all day long. Turn your back and they're off eating whatever they can find in the garden - I won't provide details! But so far it doesn't seem to have harmed them and I would say they were healthier than average!
