Disabled and needing assistance

exquisite-flower by exquisite-flower Young Parent(September 2006) (rank 11th)

I'm in a wheel chair,  and I have grown  daughter. I woul'd like advice on getting her to help me clean. she says she woul'd but has very little time   help    what can I do?She said to buy a robot to cook and clean    very funny huh

Hi.  I know how frustrating it can be.  I cared for my brother while he and I were at university.  He had 'PA's' (Personal Assistants), but they rarely had things to a standard he liked them to be - fussy male!  Now he has carers who go in to clean and also who take care of him.  I dont know how able you are in yourself.  Is there a way to break down the work needing to be done so it feels less like a chore to your daughter?

If she truly does want to help, but has little time what I do in my own home - I have one job to do, and i do it.  LIke clean the bathroom.  This will take me anything from 5 mins -30 mins depending on how thorough I wish to be and how frequently I am doing it.  I then concentrate on getting it done.  The spray and cleaning cloths are all to hand (in a box already in the bathroom) in a place that is easy for me to get to and makes on the spot decisions to clean in there simple.

Maybe if you are able to a certain extent you might find a way to work together, so you do what you can reach and she does the rest or something.  Not knowing your limitations makes it hard to offer suggestions.

Or even get a cleaner in exclusively and then you and she can just have quality time together where you enjoy each other and if she helps out that is a bonus.

I hope that you come to an amicable and happy arrangement for both of yourselves.  Your relationship is one of the most important things to preserve at the end of the day.  Good luck

There are many ways to get help for disabled assistance.  Just do a local internet search and see what comes up.  Often local councils will have links from their websites.
