Working moms, if you can squeeze a few hundred bucks a month from your budget...

JustLinda by JustLinda Standing(September 2006) (rank 500+)

HIRE A WEEKLY CLEANING SERVICE!!!

I don't know why it took me so long to do this.  I guess I was embarrassed at the state of my home (Chaos Central).  I guess it made me feel inadequate.  After all, weren't thousands of other mothers working and keeping their

homes presentable?

But last year, I finally broke down and brought in a cleaning service and I will never EVER look back.  Yes, it's significant montly expenditure.  I realize that.  And I know many cannot possibly afford it... I spent years as a working mother who couldn't have afforded it, so I know that position too.  But *IF* you can, consider it.  Get over your embarrassment and feelings of inadequacy and just jump in with both feet.

It's amazing what it does.  The feeling of walking into a CLEAN house after work.  The way it removes stress and anxiety.  The way it frees up your weekend for other things.  The way you can now get some other projects done that you never could get to before.

Highly recommended.  And trust me - your house isn't as bad as you think.  Cleaning services and individuals who do this job have seen MUCH worse than what you have under your roof....

Cleaner
I would love to have a cleaner...and a cook. If I could ever afford it I think it would be justified for sure.

I agree - and not just working mums
An acquantance of mine with a high powered job (long hours but lots of money)  was complaining that she hated cleaning the bathroom but her husband was not keen on the idea of a cleaning lady. I just said "I don't know what you get paid an hour and I don't want to know but I'll bet it is significantly more than you would pay a cleaning lady. You're the high powered human relations manager - you tell me who should be cleaning your bathroom?" I think she got a cleaning lady.

Works wonders
I agree!  I cannot afford it at all.  But a few of my friends have older children now and have the ability to spend it and it does pay off!! their homes are so much better organised because all they have to do is tidy things away.  A worthwhile investment if you can afford it.

I use to do that for a living

Boy the stories I have!! I use to clean homes for a living. It was so nice to see the people so happy on the job I have done. The were usually amazed on how it looked before and after. I didn't even had to provide anything. They had everything there for me. I just had to show up.   Now I get calls to wash walls, etc. Sometimes I shampoo furniture and carpets. I remember getting paid $2 a shirt to hang them up.  It doesn't seem like lots but it did add up.  I did make good money, but once child #2 came it was too hard to continue.
