Rainy Day Box

rogerslili by rogerslili Talking(September 2006) (rank 491st)
If you have a child that gets bored as easily or as quickly as mine does, you might appreciate this! *grin*

When it rains, my son and I break out the Rainy Day Box. It's an ordinary-enough cardboard box that we decorated with a sort of wrapping paper collage
(leftovers from odd rolls of paper from Christmas). Inside of it, we have a deck of cards, plain white paper, markers, crayons, scissors and glue, noisemakers, dress-up clothes (clothing that we found at thrift stores that we could dress in and make one another giggle), and so much more. Okay, so it's a big box, lol. But it's a great one!

When it rains, we drag out this behemoth box and we start rifling through it. Last week, we held a miniature livingroom parade. We each dressed up to look as comical as we possibly could, and we grabbed noisemakers and stomped through the livingroom. We were laughing so hard by the end of the rainstorm that we didn't Need to go outside! Mind you, we did anyway, just to Mud Puddle Stomp for a bit. *laugh* (Mud Puddle Stomping is excellent therapy, btw)

Try it! Totally involve the kids, too. The ideas they can come up with might just stun you. We get so caught up in being Adults that we forget how to have real, innocent fun. Rainy Day Boxes allow us to be kids again, with our kids. If nothing else, it keeps you from getting frustrated when they come to you with, "Mom/Dad, I'm bored..."

Stock Pile..
Although Olivia is too young for this, I have started to stock pile old odds and ends for her rainy day box.
I think that it's a great idea - I wish that I'd had one as a kid.

Once my daughter is old enough, I will defiently try that out. When I was a kid, I never had anything like that. Thats a great idea. Thanks for the advice!

I'll give it a go...
I'll give it a go for sure.. My son is a bit young for that at the moment, but I am sure my step daughter will love it.
