Be patient with your child when potty training

Anonymous Author (September 2006)
I've been told always to be patient, but firm with my child when potty training. You can't push them as such, but a firm and rewarding way that they understand. All of a sudden it will just click with them to go to the toilet, and they will be so
excited that theyve gone to the big toilet, and want to go there all the time. You do need alot of patience when potty training, but i think it's all worth it in the end. I made up a chart for my girl and every time she went to the toilet, she got a star on her chart, and once it reached a certain amount, she got a reward for it. Make potty training as fun as you can, but at the same time, be firm.

Rewarding them seems to work

My son is reacting to verbal praise as much as he is reacting to "getting a prize."  I think that consistency is the most important thing and is the hardest part of the whole potty training process for me.  We must be doing something right though because I just heard him upstairs wandering in to go to the potty.  Yea!!!!

Click!
I agree - with my boy, and my girl it was just a matter of 'click' they got it and there is no turning back.
Patience is also a great virtue to possess and not just with toilet training....parenting in general, yes!
