Curly Hair Care from someone who has it...

Nostalgia by Nostalgia Walking(September 2006) (rank 500+)

I see a lot of posts about curly hair tangles, so I thought I would throw in my two cents about some basic rules that may not be common knowledge.

First, curly hair should NEVER, EVER be brushed when it is dry.  This causes frizz, which causes more

tangles, breakage and split ends.  Also, you really shouldn't use a brush on curly hair.  A wide toothed comb or pick works best.  If you must brush the hair while it is dry, get a spritz bottle and spray some water on the hair before hand or wet the brush if you use one.  Begin at the bottom of the hair and work your way up to the top in two or three sections.  Before bed, if your child has long enough hair, a simple braid will often do wonders in minimizing the tangles as they sleep.  As your child gets older and styling becomes an issue, a little bit of mousse scrunched into wet hair does well.  Also, any product for curly hair in the Frizz-Ease line is wonderful.

Hope some of this helps...

I actually do the things you say from some inner common sense that is just fantastic fortune.  But thank you so much.  I keep her hair short (ish) so that it is just less tangles and less sections to do it in.  I am sure in time it will be grown as her desires change.  But it is so good to know from someone who actually has experience of this.
Thank you again
Peace

Curly Hair
I have kinky hair not straight not curly). I always start at the bottom and I only ever use a comb. I also use a leave in conditioner to protect my hair.

Great tips, thanks

This doesn't work for children because you can really get conditioner for children but once they become older and have curly hair you should really try not to shampoo your hair all that often.  Use cream rinse.  My sister is a hair dresser and has very very curly hair and she told me that when you shampoo your hair everyday it takes all the natural oils from you hair (which cury hair doesn't have much of) that you need.  Straight hair tends to get greasy and shinny more because they have more oils then someone with curly hair.
