Your childs all grown up and getting married! How on earth are you going to afford the wedding?

peachynowamum by peachynowamum Talking(October 2006) (rank 227th)

Weddings can be very expensive here is a list of things I did to make mine cheaper. Everyone is different but i hope this helps!

  1.  I bought my dress second hand from Endos ( it only cost $45) but if you dont want to buy one hiring is
    also a cheap solution.
  2. I bought all the guys suits in the wedding party  and the brides maids dress secondhand as well (cant remember how much they cost)
  3. I bought my teddy on line from fantasy leingere and my garter from an adult shop. (you ask where? an adult shop it was much cheaper there)
  4. Shoes and other clothing extras i brought from a repo sale at the brisbane convention centre
  5. I made my own boquets from fake flowers that i brought from crazy clarks and the warehouse
  6. My hair and make up was done by a friend of a friend who happened to be a hair and makeup professional (only cost $50 its not what u know but who you know)
  7. I had a park wedding (if you ask your local council you can book the park for your wedding at no cost to you)
  8. I shopped around for the cheapest celebrant I could find (only $200)
  9. I used an old mosquito net and some more fake flowers for decoration.
  10. Oh yeah and I borrowed a string of pearls and earings from my grandmother and a tierra from a friend.
  11. I got a friend to make my wedding cake (i only had to pay for ingredients)
  12. I had an aussie reception ( a bbq in my friends backyard)
  13. We used a childs shell pool that i picked up from the markets painted it a nice pearl coulor and put gold lace around the rim and filled it with ice to put drinks in.
  14. All the gals got together the day b4 the wedding and had a cooking spree (basically making our own food) we made bula bread, potato salad and a whole heap of other stuff.
  15. Bought the meat in bulk from the butchers (bulk is always cheaper) and a couple of mates took turns cooking it on bbq on our wedding day!
  16. Alchohol!! only bought 2 cartons of beer and a carton of wescoast as extras if people wanted more they could bring their own. We also made punch an alcohlic one for the adults and a non alcoholic one for the kids which we stuck food colouring in to tell the difference. We used the cheapest wine (passion pop) we could find for the punch and noone knew they thought it tasted great.
  17. Music was download and burnt on to a cd using limewire and we also got other to bring their cds.
  18. Instead of paying for a photographer we felt it would be more special if everyone took their own photos and shared them (you capture the more special and unique moments that  way.
  19. And the honymoon was booked and paid online.

In total my wedding and reception and honeymoon cost a total of no more than $2000 the figure is rounded up.

So shop around and be creative you never know you might make a saving or 2.

Save on wedding
We were advised to save on wedding costs as to put it to the cost of raising our children
Makes sense to me.
We had a very small wedding and so didn't go into debt at all. We started our family life with no financial burdens.

I got both my wedding dress and my flowergirls dress at dress second hand
We did as much as we could ourselves for our wedding. We made all the save the datecards (including frige magnet) invites, menus order of service books and table decorations. We even made the wedding favours (my husband cross stitched kangaroo paws and I turned them into laminated bookmarks). We got married overseas (in New Zealand near my husband's family) so we went with a hotel that had a function centre manager and provided discounted accomodation to us and our guests. I got both my wedding dress and my flowergirls dress at dress second hand- but no-one guessed. We had a lot of fun doing it but it was a lot of work too.

blog maybe?

well i knew my parents didn't have the money to give me the wedding that i would like or wanted. So my husband and I went to a wedding commissioner and she married us and it only costed $150. That is a money saver and you can wear whatever you like and have whoever there. And its a real wedding too!!!!

My husband and I never had the money for the wedding we wanted and knew that no-one would help us out. SO we did it the way we thought would be cheaper in the long run. And no fiancal buren either!!!!

have you thought of renewing your vows? that way you get to have a second wedding and this time it can be the way you want. A friend of mine did that!!!
