The best way to take a moment.

dramamom by dramamom Talking Back(October 2006) (rank 44th)

With today's hurried lifestyle, it's important to take a break once in a while.  It helps to reduce stress, which can cause you all kinds of problems.  One of the best ways to take a break, that I have discovered, is to watch your children play.  Sit in a spot where they won't be immediately drawn to you and just observe.  What are they doing?  How do they show their interest in their activity?  What makes it fun?  What are they thinking?

I think this has become one of my favourite things to do.  I love watching our 16-month-old trying to figure out how something works or colouring carefully or examining a blade of grass or even just wandering from room to room.  I wonder what's going through her head, especially when she does things that seem completely silly to me, like go in circles.  I also love it when she realizes I'm watching her.  She smiles real big and comes running over to me for a big hug.  How can you feel stressful after getting a hug from your child?  I also find that it gives me an appreciation for the little things in life, for the beautiful creation, things I'd forgotten about.

So, take a little breather, watch your children discover whatever it is that has captured their interest at this moment in time, and enjoy.

I do this too
I have always watched my daughter play etc with out her noticing me. She is a great player and good in what she does. If she needs help in anything, she always comes to me to see how's it's done.

Watching them imitate
I love secretly watching them, they are so clever.  My 4yr old boy loves to dance (re: busted blog entry) My 6yr old girl loves singing in her room and my 18mth old loves imitating dad with his toy tools.  They pick up on more than we realise!  They are treasures.

Watching them imitate
My sister and I used to love pretending that we were singers... We both had a hair brush and we used to stand outside on the old tank stand outside as our stage.. We used to pretend to jump out into the crowed...  It was so much fun until mum stopped us from jumping...  Kids have no fear and the hight was well rather high, I think we gave mum a heart attack....

Watch play
I always watch my daughter play, if its in her exer saucer or on the floor rolling around. Its great and it relaxs you because you aren't doing anything. Of course you have to watch out for them, but at least you get to watch them play!

Take a breather...

My son's favorite things he loves to do is run circles around me while I sit on the floor and as he runs past I tap him on the butt or pretend to miss him, he laughs so hard... or the kitchen table he loves to run around that.. The second thing he loves is pushing his sisters pram around while chasing the dog.. We are trying to stop him chasing the dog. Thankfully the dog knows how to get up on the sofa...

One thing that happened today as I quietly watched.... He went to the dog food bowl grabbed a dog biscuit went over to the dog who was chewing on a toy. Then Francis gave him the biscuit and as the dog dropped his toy to take the biscuit Francis ran off with his toy... lol

Take a breather...

Gems like thatmake it so worthwhile to take this time out.  For me it removes the sense of 'I should be doing something else...'  because i learn so much from watching her.

Now... just wish i culd observe her in her gymnastics class.  She comes home and does the most amazing stunts some weeks!

Peace
