Budgeting ideas

chuch29 by chuch29 Walking(October 2006) (rank 500+)

well as we know our are learning the older the child the more expensive, Well i am any way.  I am a 1 income family with a hubby, 11 year old boy chris, a nearly 5 year old girl Lanie, and twin boys that are 22months billy & nick.

i have only $200.00 a week for shopping nappies and formula.  some people would say thats heaps but others will say how do you do it.

I shop at 5 supermarkets per week.  yes i am mad get the straight jacket i do it all in one day.

i check all the catalogues for the specials then go get what i need from each supermarket.  Formula from amcal get points on my card so i get freebies every couple of months. and i always use my flybuys card to get those points to (they are paying for my inlaws xmas pressy this year).

nappies i buy in bulk from nappyland and i have a discount card and i get 5% off cause i have twins (check if there is a multiple birth association in your state they have a membership where there is playday at discounted prices) i get 100 medium nappies for $17.95 every six boxes i get a stamp and i get a box of tissues or a packet of nappy sacks.

Twins association sends me a newsletter every month and i can get 2 for 1 haircuts, 2 for 1 shoes and clothes.  pay for 1get 1 to the indoor play centres.

School Snacks.

those multi packs of chips are really expensive so i buy home brand chips a big 200g packet a stick them in resealable lunch bags i get 8 per packet and it only cost me $1.49 for the chips. (when they bring home the bag rinse it in warm soapy water turn inside out over a cup till dry and reuse next time.)

each bag you reuse you are saving 6cents well i know thats not much but over a year i save about $15.00

invest in a mini muffin tray they are the best things ever invented.  mini muffins i use a safeway woolworths homebrand chocolate muffin mix $1.26 that makes 36 mini muffins stick them in bags of three a chuck them in the freezer, they defrost in 30 mins

Cleaning Your House

i have 2 asmatics in my house so it has to be clean and dust free.  white vinegar..... thats it it does windows it does floors it does bathrooms toilet laundry gets the smells out of your sink.  cost practicly nothing and is not harmful at all to your kids. just dilute it in some warm warm and off you go

two caps full of turps in a bucket of warm water makes floor boards look amazing

Vinegar is great!
I use vinegar and bi carb to clean now. So much nicer than nasty chemicals. So much cheaper too.
Some great tips!

I agree.  You are amazing fitting it all in!  I only have the one, but we hardly find time for the usual thing.  Thanks for the white vinegar tip.  I had heard about that, but havent gotten around to buying it yet.  Think it is awesome though.  Cheers

i do the same
i live off the catalogues, and do go to every supermarket and places like Big W and Kmart aswell. It's alot cheaper doing it this way. I only have the one child, but i do the exact same way as you. It's the only way to do it i think
