The wolf in sheeps clothing (Stranger Danger)

peachynowamum by peachynowamum Talking Back(October 2006) (rank 24th)
The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
Illustrated by Terrence Morash

A Wolf found great difficulty in getting at the sheep owing to the vigilance of the shepherd and his dogs. But one day it found the skin of a sheep that had been flayed and thrown aside, so it

put in on over its own pelt and strolled down among the sheep.

The Lamb that belonged to the sheep, whose skin the Wolf was wearing, began to follow the Wolf in the Sheep's clothing.

So, leading the Lamb a little apart, he soon made a meal off her, and for some time he succeeded in deceiving the sheep, and enjoying hearty meals.

Appearances are deceptive.

I think this can be a great and simple way to remind our children about stranger danger as a lot of time people will approach a child offering lollies or some other incentive to go with them. Some will even rock up to a childs school or play ground saying that mummy or daddy sent them to pick them up. Of course one needs to put strategies in place to prevent this from happening True. This is just another one of Aesop's Fables but it does teach us alot! For more of these great stories you can go to http://www.umass.edu/aesop/fables.php

police
I am continually aware of strangers especially with the recent murder near us of a child in a public toilet within a shopping centre.  I have made a point of showing our 2 year old who policemen are so she will recognise the uniform.  I have even introduced her to as many as are happy to give us the time.  She now points them out and knows that if mummy and daddy aren't around she should go to a policeman.  Of course stranger danger is the next hurdle.

stranger danger.
My child has been going to kindy since she was 2, and at the kindy they do make them aware of stranger danger, and also i have been teaching her myself ( even though she's only 3.7 ) and i thinks its a great idea to teach them about strangers at a very early age.

As a police officer, stranger danger is one of the things at the top of our list for kids.  It's hard to try to explain to some kids about strangers.  Especially when I am at the front of a class talking to them and I am a stranger myself.  We try to teach them to always tell a 'big person' (mum, dad, teacher etc) where you are going.  Never go by yourself.  Don't take shortcuts and things like that.  Also run into the nearest shop, doctors, office and tell someone there.  It's such a big topic and unfortunately there are those 'wolves' about.

I havn't looked yet so if you have dont worry but perhaps you should write an article on how to prevent stranger danger and maybe include some of your experiences as a police officer.

Stranger Danger
Hi,
Where do we draw the line on stranger danger because most of the people you are telling them to run to are also strangers....
After all a stranger is just a friend you do not know.
How do they learn to differentiate

A lot of children are also harmed by people they do know
Often a family member or neighbour,,,,,
Scary world hey.....

We were actually taught by a policeman not to yell help as not many people will listen anymore to the word help.
We were taught to yell FIRE FIRE.   Everyone looks for fire.....
Luv Deb
