Maths And Alphabet Hide 'N' Seek

Maths and Alphabet hide ‘n’ seek

I am always trying to come up with different ways of teaching my daughter maths as she really struggles with it. My Daughter is 8 and my son is 3. It occurred to me that my son was missing out a little

so I came up with a new game that they both enjoy at the same time and is educational as well.

For my son, I have written out two sets of the alphabet and the numbers 1- 20 on cards.

For my daughter, I have written out two sets of the multiplication table, cutting the answer away from the sums. I have also done this for some subtraction and addition.

To play the game,

For my son, I hide a few letters around the house or outside, making sure that there are some that he knows and some that are a bit tricky. The same goes for the numbers. Then I will show him a letter and he has to go and find it before his sister finds her card.

For my daughter, I hide several answers. She has to look at a sum, then go and find the correct answer and bring that card back before her brother. When she gets better, I will show her the answers and then she will have to find the equation.

I always hold the original cards so that they can refer back to them. When they have brought the correct cards back, it is time to find another.

At the end of the game, we tally up who was the quickest and the winner gets to grab something from the 1st prize lucky dip box, and the runner up gets to grab something from the Runnerup lucky dip box. The boxes are filled with stickers, pencils, rubbers, sticky note pads etc, which were just lying around the house. We only play for about 20 minutes and we only play once a week. This week, the kids next door asked if they could play as well.

I really try and make it relatively easy, and only throw in one mildly challenging sum for my daughter as my objective is to try and make it fun, and to build her confidence. As she the kids reach different stages, I can adapt the game. My son is loving this game and so is my daughter. I think it takes the monotony out of maths homework.

Awesome game idea

my mind is boggling for a way to make it into a party game atm.  LOL.  Think I may make each childs name up and hide the letters near things that start with that letter eg a C will be hidden near/on a chair etc.
Peace

making learning fun
It sounds like your kids really enjoy the game and I think learning is so much easier when it is fun.  What a great idea!

Sounds really neat!

I did one simialiar to that. I used an old shower curtain and wrote numbers 1-100.  Than I asked my daughter a question and she had to jump/stand on the number.  It works for adding, subtracting, division and multipling too.
