ear piercings for children

rshshly by rshshly Standing(April 2006) (rank 500+)
usually piercing place won't pierce your child's ears unless she is 6 weeks old, some places won't pierce unless the child is 2 months. the only concerns to have is they could get infected, no matter how old the child is, if this happens just take out the earrings and try
later if wanted, when the child is a little bit older. the other being your child could be allergic to the earrings, which also could result in you having to take the earrings out, this would require a few weeks with out any earrings in , then when the childs ears are healed/healthy, try a different type of gold,if you got them pireced with 14 karat, try 24 kt.

Re: ear piercings for children

I had my daughters ears pierced when she was only 3 months old as it is a traditional thing in the family.  I took her to the chemist and they only had one gun to ear pierce her ears.  You can imagine the screams and now I wish I had waited for her to decide whether or not she wanted her ears pierced.  She hasn't worn her earrings in two years and the holes haven't yet closed or no infection.

Re: ear piercings for children

I had both my daughters ears peirced as soon as they could hold their heads up

Lots of people dont agree with this and think it is cruelty ,I was told that you either get them done very young of alot older as when they are babies thay dont grab at them so less chance of infection .When they are older they are more aware and will yank and grab at them.

My advice to those people who think it is not the right thing to is to have your opinions but keep them to yourselfs

Earings
I wanted to get our daughters ears pierced when she was first born. But came to decide that we should wait. When she asks to get hefr ears pierced then we will get them done. we plan to make a big day of it to make it really special. Go out for lunch, shopping whatever and then get them done and then go to a jewler and pick out a nicer pair for when they heal.

ear pierings
i wanted to get my daughter's ear's pierced, but then i came to a decision. if she wants to have them pierced, then i will let her get them pierced. i think its her decision if she wants to get her ear's pierced, and not mine. but everyone is different, this is my own opinion. i dont want anyone else to get mad at what i'm saying.

Ear Piercing...
I think to each their own on this issue.  Personally my husband and I have chosen to let our little ones decide to have it done when they want to.  Now I just wish everyone would stop asking "Why don't you get her ears pierced?" and I've even had family say to me that they were going to take her to get it done...not asking, telling me this.  It's getting to the point where I'm tempted to just go get it done allready to shut everyone up!but I won't of course!

I did
I had my daughter's ear's pierced when she was just about 7 weeks old.  I put Emla cream on her ears about 45 minutes beforehand.  Emla cream is just a numbing cream that I bought from the pharmacy...which also works for when she gets her needles!!  My Mom was the one that pierced her ears...she's got her licence, she does it at the drug store.  So, my Mom pulled the trigger on the piercing gun around my daughter a few times to get her used to the sound.  Then she pierced her ears and my daughter didn't even flinch.  Her ears did not get infected, the earrings are made up of surgical steel so most people are fine with these.  And, she was fine once the cream weared off...she doesn't even know she has them!

Ear piercing at 6 weeks!?!
Why on earth would you want to get your baby's ears pierced so young?

Re: Ear piercing at 6 weeks!?!
In some cases, it is cultural. My niece is having hers done shortly - although why the mom's culture trumps ours (where we wait to let the child decide when she reaches double digits), I don't know.

But that's a separate issue entirely :)

not bad info
good info! - just a little hard to read due to layout.
