Christmas and who do you spend it with

peachynowamum by peachynowamum Talking(October 2006) (rank 229th)

This year with the birth of our first child we are faced with the dilema whos parents do we spend it with.  We have already got invites from my parents and his.. So who do we spend it with we don't want any cat fights or jealousy betwen the grandparents

but if we spend it withone set and not the other that is exactly what will happen!

So we have decided that we will spend it as a whole family, we are going to have a party in the park as our yard isn't big enough (we dont have one lol we live in a town house) and if our families want to come they may so that way problems shouldn't occur.

My sugestion to those who have a similar dilema is find a place thats big enough for everyone and have them come to you but don't get upset if they can't make it or reject your invite as Christmas is about the kids and spending time with your own family (your kids).

Christmas time

We do this every year. We all spend christmas day at someone's house even if it's in laws etc. We have done it for years this way.

When we were in NZ...
Christmas morning was church with Mums family, followed by lunch and afternoon, tea time was with Dads family and then boxing day was both families plus various family friends who joined us all at Ashurst Domain and we all had a big barbie there.  It was a massive event and people who didnt get on either got on for the day or didnt come or stayed out of each others way.  We were fortunate.  When I am faced with this and if all family lives in same country then I hope to come to a similar arrangement.
Peace

Whew!
I totally understand the dilemma!  My parents live a state away and my husband now has two sets of parents. (They're divorced and both remarried.) I'd love to be able to invite everyone over to our home, but my husband's parents do not get along and would not agree to "give up" their Christmas by having to share it with each other.  After finding that out the hard way, we've chosen to spend Christmas morning at home.  We have a quiet morning...eat breakfast...check out what Santa left...and eat lunch that we all help prepare.  Then we visit my husband's mom for dessert  and stay the afternoon, then go to his dad's for supper.  It's still kind of hectic, but it's the best compromise.  One of these years we'll make it to my parents' for Christmas!

Who to spend Christmas with....

My hubby's parents are divorced so we have to split our day or pick do it in two days.  My parents live in Australia so well unfortunatly don't get to spend christmas with them. Except this year. It was not a really hard choice to make except for the fact that Hubby's dad and every one are going to Punta Cana this year for Christmas.   We went a couple of years ago.

When my mothers parents were alive we'd spend the night at their place and have lunch with them and then head over to dad's family.  It is hard as his parents also seperated...   Since mum's parents have died (she is one of 10 kids so the family is huge) they spent christmas with dad's family then on boxing day they'd all get together at park and party there.

Will try this, if/when we move

I know what you mean. I'd for one love to go visit my side of the family but they are 3000 miles away. Now my in-laws live like 10 mintues away. So more than likely it will be spending it at their place.

I would love it if my family could make it here too! (it's been 4 years since I haven't seen them ) Also it would be nice if his parents would come over here, instead of us going there all the time.

I will be defiently using this advice, expecially if we move out of the city. It will work... I hope.. If not, I can't say I didn't try! Thanks!
