Lack of energy?

Anonymous Author (October 2006)
Has your child always lacking energy? Eating all their vegies and fruit etc? Are they getting enough exercise? If your child does eat properly, but doesn't get enough exercise, then maybe take them for a walk around the block or to the nearest park and let them play on the play
equiptment for an hour or so. If they don't even want to go for a walk, then maybe suggest to them they have to tidy up their rooms, or do something they don't like doing, then give them the altermatem of either, doing something they don't like doing or playing on the equiptment at the play ground.

I understand your point.

I get what you are saying! I suppose if Alina weren't energetic I would come up with ways of trying to get her do do something as well. It makes sense.

I hate to sound like a statistical person - but they do show that child obesity is massively on the rise - and one of the factors that relate to this gigantic problem in Australia is kids not being active! Definately encourage them to get out and particpate in activities as such but be careful not to hound your children.

When it comes to cleaning the room - no ifs or buts about it - try not to sugar coat things too much - my rule is if you made the mess - then you can tidy it up - my 2.5 yr old is proof that it can be done!

If your kid doesnt want to go to the park there might be other social issues going on as to why they really dont want to go to the park.

My main concern is - if the child is withdrawing themself from normal activities - is there something underlying this behaviour?

Have a great day!

Tell him to run around the house 20 times time him when he has done this and see if he can beat that time next time (my parents did that to us we fell for it every time) and guess what he will probably wave at you on the way pass everytime also when he does ask how many he got left make up a no that is actualy more. Its a great way to wear a child out LOL

I agree to a point...

whilst i do agree children need to get out more. I don't think you should make cleaning their room a punishment for not palying outside for a few reasons

  1. Their bedroom is something they must be responsible for cleaning regulary- your child will think its ok to leave it looking like a tornado hit it as long as they continue to play and have fun
  2. This does not encourage responsibility
  3. playing outside should be fun forcing them to do it with the threat of punishment takes the fun out of it- and they may grow up hating physical activity

Instead why not turn the TV off forget the houswork for a moment and go play outside with them, teach them the games you enjoyed as a child. Most kids love spending quality time their parents and therefore would not protest physical activities if mum and/ or dad was involved to.

I asked my legal studies teacher about that one day, he told me the reason they leave their clothes on the floor next to the hamper is because it's all about sport, They shoot for it, miss and then are too cranky, coz they missed, and leave it there in protest. LOL
