Gifts for Teachers: At Christmas or Anytime |

Since others are writing about Christmas, I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
As a teacher I have received so many gifts over the years. Most of which were candles, bath sets, and other knick-knacks that I just didn't know what to do with or where to put
them. My house isn't that big. So, what do you give a teacher? Here are some suggestions for meaningful and useful teacher gifts:
- If you know the teacher well, get him/her something they will really like.
- Gift certificates for a local coffee shop. (Here in Canada, we love Tim Hortons coupons!)
- Gift certificates for a teacher supply store. (We always need more things for the classroom.)
- Books for the classroom library. Choose appropriate ones you know your own child enjoys.
- Tickets to a local theatre.
- Gift cards for a local restaurant or movie theatre. (Some teachers especially need encouragement to get out and have some fun.)
- Let your child pick out the gift. It's much more meaningful, for the teacher and your child, if the gift is really from the student.
- Let your child make a gift. Also means a lot more.
- Hand-made cards are more special as well. Make sure you write something, too.
- A coupon for classroom help (if permitted in your child's school).
The point is, don't get something because you feel you have to give something tangible. Teachers are just like everyone else. We like things that we can use and things that don't take up space.
Another thing to keep in mind: You don't need to spend lots of money . It's actually a little embarrassing and uncomfortable when parents spend too much on a gift.
Just remember, teachers like any expression of appreciation. They want to know that you support them and stand behind them. Christmas, well anytime, is a great time to tell them that.
