Your pregnancy affected by different fruits?

surfingmama by surfingmama Speaking(October 2006) (rank 500+)

Can fruits affect your pregnancy? Fruits in general are healthy, but according to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, different fruits will have different effects on the body and it is important, especially for pregnant women, to take note of. Before you tuck into your favorite fruit, you should understand what your body type is, and what fruits are beneficial to your health:

Cool Body Type: If you consume melons regularly, you can get diarrhea easily
Warm Body Type: If you consume mangoes, lychees and longans, your body will become hot

Body with illness or disease:
Asthmatic and prone to coughing – avoid melons
Sensitive skin – avoid mangoes and strawberries

How do you know if you have a cool or hot body? Check out Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Diagnostics. Remember: Hot is yang, and Cool is yin.

Some examples of fruit categories:

Mangos – Hot effect but take note that some people may have allergic reactions mango

Longans– It’s one of the very few fruits used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, rich in vitamins A, B1 and sugar, good for insomnia, absent-mindedness and traumatized patients. It is also good for weak bodies

Pears – Cooling for the lungs and best for sore throat and people whose cough contains phlegm.

Melons – Very cooling and acts as a diuretic agent, hence do not eat too much before bed or you’ll be running to the toilet in the middle of the night

More food and fruit classification (hot or cool) can be found in Feeding According to TCM.

Conclusion: pregnant women with warm body type should not consume hot fruits, nor should they indulge in too much cooling fruits as they may suffer from diarrhea and affect the fetus.

Banana's effected me

Every time i would eat banana's, i had an allergic reaction, so i couldn't eat them while pregnant. Once my daughter was born, i thought i'd try one, like my doc suggested ( about a year later ) and i was fine.
