Important Toddler safety tips |

I had a friend over the other day and she noticed that our water was REALLY hot. She suggested to us that we turn our water heater down before one of our kids got burned. i wasn't sure how much to turn it down. i did a search on the internet.
I found this website, drgreene.healthology.com. The article is called Toddler Safety: Injury Prevention for children age 2-4.
I found out that most houses and apartments' water heaters have a factory setting of 140-150 degrees fahrenheit.
If your water heater is set at 150 degrees it takes 2 seconds for your child to get a third degree burn. It is best to turn down you water heater thermostat down to between 120 and 130 degrees fahrenheit to prevent burns. Needless to say that we turned our water heater thermostat down. My daughter can now reach the taps herself and even though we have taught her which is hot and which is cold she can still reach for the wrong tap. It only takes one time.
Don't forget to always to check the water before your kids go in their bath!!! If it is too hot for you then it is too hot for them!! I saw at Walmart the other day that they have non slip stickers for the bottom of the tub that change colour if the bath water is too hot.
Just a little add on, does everyone have their poison control numbers handy? We did that a little while ago. We had a babysitter come and i put all the pertinent info on the side of the fridge in case she needed it or we did also.
Hope these tips help in some way.
