Books

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(October 2006) (rank 31st)
Last night I noticed that all of my sons books are in the toy room.  I also notice that he doesn't read them when he is in the toy room because well he has so many toys to play with.  I have put a bunch of books in differnt parts
or the house  so that he will get away from the toys and pick up a book.  I place them in his room, our family room, living room, my room and next to his potty.  I found taht I would put toys in all these rooms so instead I put the toys in the toy rooms and the books in the toys place.  He now reads his books when he is in those rooms.  Try it, you might be surprised at how much you child likes to read.

Reaing

My daughter's books are also everywhere around the house. She loves to pick up books and just look at the pictures and read.

I do this
I have my 18 month olds book seperate to his toys but for my older kids they are all in the one room now and my eldest has one two big literacy awards. This really does work along with reading to your child everyday.

Good idea.
its great to hear that you have found a way to get your son interested in books, Amy has a book case in her room (as we don't have the luxury of having a toy room) her toys are in her bedroom too but she seems to prefer her books, I know that you can't tell by early behavour what they will like when they are older but I hope if we encourage her enough she will stay interested so I might take you up on your advice and move some to the front room.

Good idea.
We have toys in the box and books on the shelf.  half the times toys are arranged in a circle and E reads to her 'babies'.  all toys become babies for this game of hers.  It is amazing what she reads to them.  Sometimes it is actually what the book is!  Like her abc and 123 flap books.
Peace

Good thinking
It is good that you found a way to encourage your son to read his books more. Encouraging an enjoyment of books is a great way to help him with his later literacy skills. Good thinking.

i have got all my daughter's books in the one room, and if she wants a book read to her she will go and get it. I think all books in the one room is ideal, so they don't loose track on where their books are

Thats good.  What ever works for your kids is good.  My son wont read if his toys are around.  I rather him read then play with his toys all the time.  I keep track of teh books prety good, they all have a box in each room that they sit in.  Happy reading.
