Trick them

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(October 2006) (rank 12th)
I went to the doctor the other day with the boyfriend and the reseptionist was telling me that she has a foster child right now that is 2 years old.  She told me that this childs mother would only but coke in his bottle so the little boy would ask
for coke when he wanted a drink.  So she told be that when he started asking her for coke she put milk in there instead and said that it was coke and he drank it.  I do the samething with my son sometimes.  He asks for chocolate milk and I give him plain milk and he drinks it.  It doesn't last for long, do it while you can if you need to.

Re: Trick them

I don't see the point in lying to children about anything unless you really have to.  If a child is thirsty, they will drink and it is never to early for them to learn that coke and chocolate milk are not healthy drinks.  I remember things from when I was 18mths old, so how can you be sure your trick won't back fire on you sometime?

We've all done it at some time!
Me included... of course i only do it to my 2 year old and it's never anything big or serious. My 6 year old knows that i will always tell him the truth about things and he can trust me.

I may regret saying this now since my boy is only one year old ... but I intend to be as honest as possible with him .... about most everything .... we will see ....

Yeah me to unless it means making a heather choice and avoiding a tantrum.  When they are older I can understand it but at 2 who cares they wont remember that you tricked them.

That makes sense to me ... so to "trick" them when they are so little and it doesn't really matter ... well that makes sense to me ! I guess I did not quite understand the concept ... But this does seem like a good idea, thanks !

Tricking
Growing up my mom made tofu stirfry. i was the kind of kid that would not try anything new. I asked what was it and my mom told me chicken stirfry. My mom told me that next time that we had it that it was tofu. To this day, I love tofu and so do my kids!!!

Cucumber or Zuccini...
Every time I cooked with Zuccini, my step daughter would say what is it... For five years I got away with telling her it was cucumber...

Good Idea to me :)

Hmmmm, Sounds like a good idea to me.. I think I might try that once my daughter gets older. hehehehe

Tricking a baby could be fun.. Ahhh i'm only joking only when it comes to food or drinking milk!! But you would think, wouldn't they tell the difference? Because Milk is white and chocolate milk is well... chocolate color(brown)

I know but maybe when he asks for chocolate milk he means milk and thats why he is happy and doesn't complain.
