Let's keep positive

julielf by julielf Talking Back(October 2006) (rank 48th)
I am a real believer in being positive.  Positive in parenting and positive in everything we do and comments that we make.  What is the use of being negative all the time.  We just get annoyed with things and get frustrated and we just start feeling bad about things.
Being positive is taking things that frustrate us (negative things) and turn them around and make something positive out of them.

I am fairly new to this website and am still learning about writing advice and comments etc and maybe sometimes you may think that I am out of line but I will try very hard not to be.  If I am ever out of line please just disregard what I have said or give me a bad vote or something.  I don't think I have done it yet but there may be a time in the future.  Sometimes people will say things on the website that you don't necessarily think is right for you.  Maybe not - but maybe it may work for someone else.  If you don't like what they've said and it's not offensive then just give it a poor vote.  What does it achieve to argue about it.  A healthy discussion is great but let's keep positive.

Maybe you'll see advice or comments written by someone and it has alot of typos or spelling mistakes (which I may do sometimes).  So what!  Yes you may think that its a bit annoying but I think that we need to just get over it and look past that stuff and listen to the heart of the comment.  dos this anoy te livin daylites owt ov yu.  LOL.  Sorry but I was just getting my point across.

Yes I know this is starting to look a bit negative but I have seen some comments that really have been quite negative.  From what I understand this website is all about helping others in their role as a parent not helping them with their ability to type, spell or to have the correct  grammar.

Please please please let's think about the positive side of life and chat and comment happily.

Re: Let's keep positive

Being positive towards other parents is a good idea.  We are all individuals and have opinions that are just as valid as anyone elses.  We also need to be sensitive to the needs of other parents and learn to bite our tongues at times.

Thinking before we react is highly important.  Don't forget that the way you treat people is being watched by your children either, they learn by example and parents are their biggest role models.

Great article, and keep up being a positive you!

As for the typos, they do make me itch to fix them, but who am I to mess with the style of the person who has made them?  We all make them, and I have to say that typing this is taking me twice as long as it should because I keep hitting the wrong keys!  Arrrrgghh, and I'm going back and fixing my mistakes! lol.

Re: Let's keep positive
This is really nice advice Julie, it certainly is our own decision in regard to how something affects us.  We decide whether to take a negative or positive lesson from every moment in our lives, this includes the things we hear, see and read.  In regard to comments with spelling errors, no big deal - it is hard, because we can't go back and edit them, and sometimes they are funny.

However, if someone wants their advice to be taken seriously, and it is full of spelling errors and poor sentence structure etc.  It can make it difficult to understand, and it does detract from the content.  It is a best to write advice in word or a similar program on your computer first.  That way you can spell check etc.  Then cut and paste it to the advice section - it is great, you learn as you go, and I can see that many people have improved a lot in this particular area as I read through the advice they have published.

Being Positive
It is what makes me tick.
you can probably tell from some of the advice I have written but fi you are not happy with yourself it will make it hard for others to be happy with you or around you.
Don't forget that your children will emulate what you are so you be must be aware of what you are.

So true
The positive environment is why I decided to join. I am more of a reader than an active participatant but it's so NICE to read positive comments, advice and stories about the members of this forum.

I agree with another commenter that differing views are a good thing but differing views can be expressed in a positive way too

Stay positive....
I like to think I am a very positive person...  If I feel negitive about something I usually always look for the oh well at least it's not (Fill in the blank)... And if I can't do that I usually go to bed.... I am one of these people that can go to bed feeling upset about something and once I have slept it's a new day...  Like what ever was there the day before is gone, and if it is still there I can deal with it better...   I like positive....

Another positive part of minti
Another positive part of minti is the stars at the top of peoples comments. Did you know that if you like someones comment you can hold your cursor over the stars until they turn green (if the site is running slow it may take a bit longer to work)  and register a positive vote for someone's comment. This contributes to their ranking on the site. I have noticed lately a lot of great comments without stars so I wasn't sure how many of the newer members were aware of this feature.

Just did it
I did not know about this feature ..... but just used it to give you five stars for this comment ! Thanks so much !!! Love this site ..... Love everything it has to offer so far .... I have looked and looked since I was pregnant for just such a site for advice on parenting ..... No bickering necessary ..... Let's not ruin this great opportunity to learn from one another ...  I have several advice pieces posted and one of them is getting negative votes ... I take it with a grain of salt ... I stand behind that article knowing that if it helps only one person, then the article did what it was supposed to .... it helped someone .... Thanks to Minti ! I am so new at this parenting thing ! And Minti has so much to offer !!!

Different views
Life would be boring if we didn't have different views and we have all been guilty of perhaps not getting our views across in a diplomatic way.  But I think we need to try.  Especially here,  as I think some people get scared off putting comments for fear of what someone else may say and let's face it this website is to help others.  Thanks for your comment - it's always good to know someones reading them.

Agree
I can't agree with you more, sometimes I don't think people think before commenting I have been guilty of this, we all have different views and thats what makes Minti so interesting and fun to be a part of.
