Paracetamol challenge

Rachall by Rachall Talking(October 2006) (rank 97th)

When I was pregnant with Josh I was given a bottle of Baby Panadol as a Baby Shower gift. This is what I used for about the first twelve months. Afterwards, he just plain refused to take it so I had to put it in his bottle of milk,

but I found that that posed a problem; I had to rely on him being thirsty.

I don’t know if you have noticed but Panadol with a syringe only comes in one flavour and that is Cherry-Vanilla. This was not very convenient for me as Josh did not seem to like this flavour. If you want a more appealing flavour, you have to buy the 1-5 years Panadol which comes with a measuring cup. This was very inconvenient for me as Josh could not yet drink out of a cup.

I then tried the chemist brand paracetamol and I got the same reaction with this also. He then started to gag and make himself throw up with both of these.

After talking to my mother I tried Dymodon, which has an Orange flavour, as she told me I used to do the same thing with Panadol and she found that I liked the taste. But I still had to tackle one problem, Josh was so used to the taste of the other paracetamol that he would not even attempt this one.

I finally tried giving him a spare syringe to play with and suck on while I gave him his paracetamol in the Dymodon syringe and IT WORKED!!

So for those parents out there who are unsure as to how to get their child/ren to take paracetamol without having to force them, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I hope this advice works as well for you as it did for me.

medicine etc
I have always trusted panadol and baby panadol as it's always worked in my family, but it doesn't necessarily work for everyone else. What ever works for it, is the best for you.

I kept the syringe from the first panandol packet and kept washing it every time my daughter used it. Maybe you shouldve done that too. Hope you have one to spare now that you use all the time.

'recycling' spoons and so on is a great thing to do, at least you always have one when you need them.   They can snap easily though, so be careful if baby is playing with it that they dont chomp on the wrong angle.

thought i would let you know

it is possible to give medication or any fluid by cup

when my one was newborn I refused to give her a bottle as i wanted to exclusively breast feed however cause my suply was still coming in she needed 20 mil top ups so the nusres showed me how to cup feed her and i still d it to this day 10 weeks down the track when she needs medicen

Unfortunately i developed a severe infection 4 weeks after i had her and had to go on harsh antibiotic so needless to say shes on the bottle now

Panadol
Our son was the same, but he had a dummy, it took a little more time and more patience but we put a little bit in then popped his dummy in so he would swallow, and repeated it til it was finished. Its better to give it to them straight instead of in their bottle because if they don't finish the bottle you don't know how much medication they have actually had.

Panadol
Good to hear that you find other medication that suite your son. I remember my doctor and a chemist used to tell me for young baby, instead of squize the syringe straight to the tounge, try to do it on the mouth's wall (right or left). Well, at least that worked for us.
